Hahahahaha. I already have to re-buy rules and codexes every edition, I am not replacing my models every time a new version of them comes out. I proudly field Rogue Trader marines next to modern kits.

I have 20 years of Games Workshop experience and with thousands of dollars spent, it should be my right to fully utilize at least some of that alongside guys who are just finding the hobby with brand-new material.

Just because there might ten years between when I bought a squad of troops and someone buying the same unit today, one guy is not better than the other.

Obviously there are some cases where wargear and/or size has drastically changed between model releases, but normally a guardsman is a guardsman is an "Astra Militarium-man".

Although it is quaint and entertaining when some young punk tried to use his "vast experience and over three years with 40K" to point to a figure in my army and try to declare I can't use it because it's not an official GW model, and I can laugh and reply, "Really? If it was still legal to field, I could go home right now and come back and plunk down a "Beakie" Space Marine with a Shuriken Catapult!"

I love the retro minis, and have wondered what the reaction would be if I showed up with my 2nd Edition Squat army, intending to play them as Imperial Guard. Who's else codex would I use?

But anyway, I love the old models. I think they add a lot of character, so long as they represent what they are supposed to be. Like the old old Chaos Dreadnought in place of a Hellbrute. If someone had a problem with it, I am sure they wouldn't be they kind of person you would want to play against even if you had the exact same minis has him.

I find that people in general absolutely love to see the really old models. I fairly frequently play with units of late 80's and early 90's minis that are older than some of my opponents.

I also use squats as IG; and Zoats in Tyranid armies.

I have never once gotten a complaint. So give it a try and enjoy! And do your homework on the old models, because I'm surprised by how many questions people ask -- they are often really genuinely interested in the fluff around them, and the equipment choices, etc.

For the greater glory of the Zoat Empire!

Why is it so hard for people to use the new legal models. And out of date 30yr old crap

It's not hard at all. Some folks, however, prefer the look of the old, still legal models, or how they look mixed in with the current models, and are willing to shell out collector prices to have them. I love the look of my old RT Furibundus Dreadnought, and am looking forward to running it side-by-side with my new Deredeo, Brasy'arth Ashmantle, Salamanders Contemptor, and Mk IV.

That's inevitable.

Don't even give it a second thought.

It’s worth noting that the new tactical squad box has all the parts needed to make old Mk. VI beakies. There is a little bit of scale creep going on

Not so much scale creep... it's just that the old Beakies skipped leg day.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Not about Space Marines really... I just wanted to say that although the metal Sisters of Battle models I have are nice and everything, the day that plastic Sisters of Battle* are released is the day I rebuild my entire Sisters of Battle army. Except maybe the Immolators/Rhinos. Because I'm gonna make some delicious heresy with assorted animal head and tail bitz and make me some anthro Sisters of Battle. Along with some human ones. Maybe some elven ones too. : D

*Shut up, I know they've been talking about it without actually doing it for over a decade, let me have my continued faith that one day they will exist. Don't try to break me down AGAIN. And no, I probably won't settle for that Toughest Girls in the Galaxy kickstarter thing, as although those models look awesome, they're not the kind of aesthetic I have in mind.

Aren't the old-old necron models vastly different from their current ones? The destroyers mainly are vastly different and the warriors are given me an ooga booga witch docter mask vibe.

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

Um, find a better picture, someone made that marine taller with plasicard, you can see where they added it.
