Coming up with an idea and don't have the rules in front of me as I am at work. Dedicated Transports like rhinos or drop pods, I know the unit that buys the transport does not have to start in them and they themselves can come out in reserves separate from each other, thus empty drop pod drops while the squad starts on the board(I am correct on this right, if not I have been playing it wrong for awhile). Can you put other units in those dedicated drop pods? Buy a drop pod for a dev squad and put say an assault squad that didn't buy a transport in it?

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs

No, units other than the unit that bought it cannot begin the game embarked upon a DT. You can embark during the game, but that doesn't help Drop Pods. Check out Rulebook page 82 when you get home from work.
This is why the SW (and later BA) Codexes threw a curve-ball - you could take a transport that was previously only available Dedicated (Drop Pod, Rhino / Razorback) as a Fast Attack choice. Meaning a unit of SM Centurions (which cannot get a DP as Dedicated) could ally-in a SW Drop Pod and begin embarked in it (as it was not Dedicated).

Sorry, no. If you buy a vehicle as a dedicated transport, the unit has to start in said transport. I would suggest that you diseberk the dev squad and embark the assault squad, but with a Drop Pod, that's pretty much pointless. Have you tried Blood Angels? You can take a Rhino, Razorback or Drop Pod as a fast attack choice for a unit that can't take them as dedicated transports.

Wrong.
The only limitation of a Dedicated Transport is that when it is deployed, it can only carry the unit it was selected with (plus any Independent Characters that have joined it).
No rule saying the unit that bought it must start in it.

They don't HAVE to start inside it, but they are the only unit that CAN start the game inside them.
