And that is just the thing, I am playing Imperial Fists which rival the Ultramarines in how strict they follow the codex. That being the case, I definitely will paint my Techmarines in the full red with the pauldron and that arm in Chapter colors while the rest of his armor will be red.

avoiding the lorax on Crion

Well a marine would make better flight crew due to ability to stay alert in excess many times of a serf, even augmented is going to stay on mission longer, and wistand many more g or extreme manoovers.

They could push harder, longer and of course a huge lifetime to learn

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

I have no clue how Dakka's moderation work. I expect it involves throwing a lot of d100 and looking at many random tables.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

Also its worth noting the Techmarine with Thundercannon on GW's webstore has only a little red (his arms/pauldrons/belt/helmet) leaving chest, legs, and hands blue. Which is weird coming from the most codex-strict chapter there is, but it could be an oversight by the painter.

That is what confused me in the first place because I use the codex to get an idea of what to paint and when I finally found the picture showing the Thunderfire Cannon Gunner, he had mostly green (He was a Salamander) with little red on him and I grew confused since in the codex entry itself it talks about how the Techmarine will wear mostly red. I thought at first that it could be a quirk of the Salamanders where they are more loyal to their Chapter no matter what but I started seeing other pictures that gave me pause, like that one.

Its noted that most chapters have been throwing out the Librarian color requirement lately, particularly the Salamanders, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Most of which is irrelevant because vehicles are limited by their fuel and armaments. It's very different to sending a marine out into the field where he can infiltrate behind enemy lines, use local resources etc where the marine is the weapon, crew are restricted to what can be carried on the vehicle.

So now all we need to know is why can you see the pilot at all, especially if it is a techmarine? The cockpit should be as armoured as the rest of the craft, pilots don't need to see given all the sensors they have.

But, then their vision is limited to only those sensors, which also can be damaged or disrupted.

Weak canopy means they're more likely to turn to goo but at least they'll see it coming.

But if they did have an armored canopy, and the sensors were knocked out, they would probably turn to goo in that case as well because lack of vision while trying to fly an aircraft usually leads to either crashing into something or being unable to dodge incoming fire.

The kind of damage that would knock all the sensors out would likely render the craft inoperable anyway so it wouldn't matter.

There is no driver window on a land raider for instance, it's all done through sensors (which includes cameras).
