So as anyone who has seen my recent posts is aware, I'm starting to collect a new Renegades army from IA:13 based around an arch demagogue with mutant overlord and covenant of tzeentch upgrades to unlock 4 units of cheap OS spawn.
The problem (not really a huge problem as his upgrades are for the unlocks - anything extra is just gravy), is where to put him so a unit can benefit from bs2 snap fire.

Then it hit me - why not get him to man a quad gun? With an extremely likely chance (70.4%) that he will get bs5, he will be ideal on this gun.
But wait - it doesn't end there. A renegade support squad with 6 autocannons and bs3 costs 125pts. But they are pretty fragile and I need something to unlock the quad gun... hello bunker with ammo dump.

So this bunker against ground targets puts out 12 st7 bs3 shots rerolling 1's and 4 st7 tl bs2 shots. Against air targets it puts out 12 st7 bs2 shots rerolling 1's and 4 st7 tl bs4 (probably bs5) shots. Everything safe and snug in an av14 bunker. All for 245pts.

The autocannons can be upgraded to 6 lascannons instead for 30pts more.

What do you think?

Sounds neat, but you can't use the quad gun while inside the bunker. So I think you should just roll with an aegis defence line instead.

That does sound like a pretty decent and cheap gun bunker. (especially as the hq you're taking anyway)
would skip the aegis I guess.
only drawback I can see is its a heavy slot which is pretty much the best renegade slot.

But this is wrong. See pg.112, Emplaced Weapons, Manual Fire and Gun Emplacement Upgrades. If a gun emplacement is taken as an upgrade for a building and placed upon the buildin's battlements it counts as an additional emplaced weapon on the building instead of a gun emplacement. Models embarked inside buildings can choose to fire emplaced weapons. So, you can fire the quad gun from inside the bunker.

The Las vs. autocannon on the weapon teams is a tough one, but I would probably go for Autocannons myself to keep the costs down.

Autocannon's would definitely be the way to go for volume of fire.
Seems like a legit and deadly pillbox, with the only downside being it's immobility .
If you want lascannons, go for the much superior rapier batteries.

Yep - models in buildings can indeed use emplaced weapons, which a quad gun counts as on a building.
I agree that autocannons would almost always be the way to go, however... for my 1st detachment (not sure if I will collect 2), this bunker will use up a heavy slot, and I will want rapier and earthshaker batteries as my other 2 heavys. That means aside from smash attacks on my Giant Spawn (thanks again for the suggestion of maggoth lords Captyn_Bob), I will have absolutely nothing to deal with av14 if the rapiers get destroyed.
Of course, at games above 1000pts I'll either have a second detachment or a detachment of CSM alongside, so autocannons would be a better way forward then.

Don't forget the Renegades can only select laser destroyer rapiers. Which fire ordnance. Which cannot snap shot.

How so? It's not a blast. Ordnance just means that it rolls 2 results for armor penetration and chooses higher.

Its in the ordnance rules. It can never be snap fired.

CSM hades autocannon rapiers with an archdeacon of tzeentch seem like a good idea.
I dont think there is even a model for that tho.

Im leaning towards getting some rapiers but no way can I afford £30 a pop.

Yeh I'd been thinking of the hades, which led me to look for the unit which would provide the most amount of shot possible to put in a bunker.
The hades with arch demagogue and quad (plus agis tax) is 50pts more expensive, but puts out the same amount of shots, with 12 of them having +1s. Also gaining +1bs against ground targets. And finally - far more durable once the support squad loses the bunker.
If taking a CSM force then a hades battery is probably a better bet. But alas, as you say - no models.
Quick question - does the rules for ammo dump behind an agis also apply to artillery within the required distance?
