Eldar and Orks yes. Tyranids hadn't appeared yet, Tau were primitive, and I don't think they had encountered Necrons but I could be wrong. They encountered plenty of other xenos that they simply annihilated as well.

They did bump into eldar. If they ever bumped into Necrons, the Necrons did a good job of erasing any evidence. Nids hadn't shown up yet. There were also the Megarachnids, Slaugth, The Interex (sadly), the Auretian technocracy (killed so Horus could bribe some of the mechanicus to fight on his side during the heresy), orks, this one insectoid species which, according to that old xenos book, still thrive in an area quite a bit larger than the Tau Empire, the Laer, and that's all I can think of.

There was also the Nephilim, which the Luna Wolves and Blood Angels wiped out. Can't think of any others off the top of my head, but the Interex wasn't strictly xenos. It was mostly human but there were some xenos, namely the Kinebrach, who made the anathame that wounded Horus.

Lots and lots of orks. The crusades were pretty much over after Ullinor.
Mostly they just stomped humans and minor empires of races that no longer matter. Otherwise what Pariah said.

There's a race the Imperial Fists fought in Extermination who reminded me of Necrons when I read it. And Alpharius' spear is almost definitely a Necron weapon.
There's one called the Khrave that the RG fought, and a few parasitic Xenos species mentioned in the HH books.

I know the Interex were mostly humans.
The Auretian Technocracy was also human

There are literally thousands of different species that the crusade encountered. Think of almost any alien race from any sci-fi that's not of god-like power and odds are the crusade found them, fought them, and exterminated them.

There were a few Necrons up and about at the time. Trazyn claims to have met Roboute and The Silent King says he met Sanguinus, and their fluff explicitly states the awakening times weren't universal (Many Triarchs in particular actually stayed awake the whole time, too).
I forget if it's official or not but I wouldn't be surprised if necrons were encountered but were simply so insignificant back then that they weren't given a name (the original official artwork that led to the necrons lists them as an "unknown" species).

Various alien species, including doubtlessly the single largest and most lethal Ork warlord to have ever lived.
Take a look at The Wolf of Ash and Fire. The warlord there makes Ghazghkull look like an absolute joke.

Orks don't die of old age so I imagine without an established powerful human empire to exterminate them, some of them simply managed to live long enough to grow that big. In modern 40k meanwhile, most orks run afoul of the Imperium (likely on purpose) and die before that happens.
Did they ever say the age of that Warboss? Ghaz is 70+ years old, IIRC (which is old for an ork's estimated life span before something kills them, relatively speaking)
I wonder how big the Beast was in comparison to that ork.

They didn't list his age. I don't think they even gave his name. Only a description of him and what he did.

Could he have met someone else and mistaken Sanguinus for them? IE: Emprah? The Emprah did throw down the Void Dragon after all, which is bound to mean he's met the Necrons in some capacity.

No, he actually specifies that humanity would have been better off with Sanguinius in charge now instead of the incapacitated Emperor, so he knows who is who.

Yes the "Primork", He was that powerful because Orks back then would be left undisturbed and grew very powerful.

Out of current factions; Eldars and Orks.
But they mainly battled with minor xenos and human splinter empires that wouldn't submit to Imperiums authority. But even back then, the biggest enemy was the Orks (see Ullanor).

Would you people stop mentioning the Laer? The Laer literally lived in a single Solar System, on a single planet. They weren't even an empire, they were just some Slaaneshi cultist aliens with advanced technology. If you wish to mention aliens, then mention the Gordian League and their degenerate Xenos allies.

It's just annoying me that people are talking about the Laer as if they were some major threat. The only reason the Laer even came close to not being destroyed was because the Imperium didn't wanna waste a few years to bring them into compliance.

Nobody said they were a major threat. They just answered the question asked in the original post. The Laer were an enemy the Space Marines encountered during the GC.
