Hello all, I was skimming through the Forge World website and noticed that they were selling a autocannon upgrade kit for the Imperial Guard Chimeras. Overall I do believe that I can make this conversion without the expensive forge world kit (I have plenty of autocannons laying around), only thing I don't know is if there are any special rules/point costs associated with the upgrade.

In summary, are there any point costs/special rules associated with upgrading a Chimera turret to have an Autocannon? Nothing about it in the Imperial guard codex that I can find, not sure if it's even a legal upgrade hehe.

Generic Guard rules for them are in Imperial Armour Volume One - Second Edition: Imperial Guard, and they're in the newer Krieg lists as well.

(The upgrade costs a Melta bomb, but the base cost in IA1 is from the old Guard Codex, not the latest Astra Militarum book)

Can we please stop doing this? "It costs the same points as this thing we all know the price of" and "it costs X points" are the same thing, and point costs can't be copyrighted anyway. The cost for the turret is +5 points, either give the point cost in clear language or don't say anything.

Anyway, it's a 5-point upgrade for any IG Chimera and does exactly what it sounds like. You replace the default multilaser with an autocannon, just like the option to replace it with a HB or HF. Overall it's not a very significant change, as both the AC and ML have their advantages. The biggest advantage to the AC turret is that IMO it looks better than any of the other turret options.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

It's 5 points, and for some reason my avatar is showing up in OP's signature.
Stupid forum bugs.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

Thank you very much for this information! Sincerely appreciated, so yeah, I guess I'll go ahead with the upgrades.

Please walk me though how you end up at 70 points for a Chimera with Autocannon.

In Battlescribe it's a free upgrade.

I had a look in IA 1, 1st, for Imperial Guard. IIRC the Chimera is 55 base (without a turret) and then the upgrades vary. But I'm not sure it ended up at 70.

Anyway, I'm sure you're right, I just need to know where to find the actual points.

Update:
Alright, I had a look in both IAs for Imperial Guard. Regardless of the base cost of the Chimera, the Auto Cannon is 5 points more than the Multilaser / HBolter.

Current Imperial Guard codex puts the Chimera's base cost at 65 points
