Subject: Non-craftworld Eldar band

Hi hello! I wanted to run some ideas before I try to make some god-awful fluff for my Eldar army.
Originally I wanted to make them a corsair army, like out of IA: Doom of Mymeara, but I don't have access to the Corsair troops, nor do I think I'd really like to play them. I kind of like the idea of band of Eldar who very specifically raid the Crone-Worlds for Spirit Stones, but I also don't know if a Non-Craftworld centric group of Eldar would even have access to the munitions and bodies to pull that off, so here are my questions.
Would an Eldar band risk going to Crone-Worlds assuming they weren't ever anywhere as big as a Craftworld, could a Craftworld be based on this task, to collect Spirit Stones, or is that a little farfetched?
I want my army to stand apart (it already does being pink on the tabletop) but I don't want to be a "Special Snowflake".
Any advice is greatly appreciated, and I'd love to bounce ideas back and forth if anyone is willing

I don't see why raiding parties of Eldar wouldn't travel to the crone worlds to gather more spirit stones. I see no lore opposition to a group becoming known for doing that and taking on their own colors/troops.

My first qualm for this was when I was reading some lore, it said that each type of Eldar had a different way of protecting their souls, Craftworlds use Spirit Stones, Dark Eldar use pain or something, and Exodites were mentioned too but not how. My thought was maybe being a raiding band, and not Craftworld based, they wouldn't be in on the Spirit stone deal.
But then how do Corsairs do it? I bet they have Spirit Stones since they're just outcasts..

The thing is, their souls aren't always protected, so part of being a Corsair might be the risk that you're going to go stick your neck out and risk losing your soul if you die.
Sometimes the rigid constraints of the Eldar Path are intolerable even for an Eldar to bear; such individuals leave their Craftworlds and become known as Outcasts. Outcasts must bear the terrible burden of their heightened Eldar consciousness without the protection of the Eldar path, set free within the universe they are dangerously vulnerable. Only Eldar of especially strong character can survive for long as Outcasts. After years of wandering as adventurers or Rangers, or sailing the seas of space aboard the pirate fleets, most Eldar Outcasts eventually return to the sanctuary of the Eldar path.
Its also worth noting the Corsair picture on the wiki shows a Corsair with a soulstone on his chest, so its assumed most will still have them.

Ooooh this is perfect, I think this means I can go with a Corsair themed army pretty well without the Craftworld mess, just that i'd have to build the risk and the cycling membership into their fluff.

Could just have them be Corsairs that loot Soulstones and sell them back to the craftworlds =P that would be really cool actually. They're not really "bad guys" or pirates, they're just making a quick buck off of a need lol

Yeah I like that too. Take what you can get and sell/trade back to the Craftworlds to keep your high roller lifestyle B)

Sounds workable to me. I'm sure the Craftworlders would rather not stick their necks out - better to just let the foolish renegades risk their souls. Also gives you an excuse to have allies (since other factions might be interested in raiding crone worlds as well, and corsairs aren't isolationists).

I think the only issue with this now is going to be my playstyle, I looove Aspect Warriors, well, all except Shining Spears. I don't really see Corsairs having any Aspect Warriors at all.

"Aspect Warriors" but not "plays as Aspect Warriors".
Who's to say they wouldn't have some nice anti-armor soldiers that just so happen to use Fire Dragon rules =P

As a note, Shining Spears in style fit the Corsairs perfectly, fast hit and run on bikes. You could easily justify a few squads of them converted to just be corsairs on jetbikes.

In the Eldar Omnibus, a group of rangers/outcasts go to a crone world with a Harlequin troupe, hiring a Dark Eldar exile and her ship+crew.I don't recall of the details, but if Commorraghean exiles can be convinced to go raid a Crone-World for money, it's not too far of a stretch to assume that some Corsair groups or just Eldar bands in general do it on occasion for profit, possibly even specializing in it. Plus, those who come from Craftworlds get a bonus of knowing that they did a good thing by providing new stones for the next generation. Money and good karma, a rare combination in 40k.

Outcasts aren't cut off. Could be Corsairs that raid crone worlds, and their former craftworld(s) send some Aspect Warriors with them.

Thanks so much you guys, you put my worries to rest and i'm going to start writing some sick fluff for my warband!
A little bit of what i'll have for now atleast, it'll be as we discussed, an Eldar Corsair warband who aids the Beil-Tan in retrieving Spirit Stones. I'm going to buy a Razorwing Jetfighter and confert it to an Eldar Nightwing with 2 Brightlances and 2 Shurkien Cannons, the two jets have a similar profile, and to be honest the Dark Eldar flyer looks heaps cooler and will look more edgy for my Corsairs. I might pick up some Dark Eldar Warriors too to mix with some Guardians kits, or maybe just cut off the excess spikes.

Read Path of the Outcast. Not all Eldar are either Craftworld, Exodite, Harlequin or Dark. There are all sorts of grey.
Path of the Outcast talks about a Webway Port (Like Commaragh used to be) were Corsairs and Dark Eldar and Craftworld Eldar trade and make port. The community there was non-violent and Dark Eldar drank with Corsairs in the local pub while Harlequins dance with Rangers.
The leader of this port was a powerful Eldar Psyker that split his soul into hundreds of Wraithbone Robots (Not Wraithguard) known as Kami, and they made sure everything went smoothly. Raids to the crone worlds were arranged here. Do know that not any Eldar can raid a Crone World, In Path of the Outcast the mission was lead by Harlequins who got them in and out safely.
It's a great book, i recommend it.
