It actually looks like they reprinted the OP ship and threw in a few additional cards. Makes scenes as there was not a lot to go off of for the Tholians anyway.

It raises some interesting potential questions about prize ships and future releases. For the lone guy out there somewhere plotting his tholian fleet, I'm sorry mate.

I don't think its that bad. Probably won't see many of these in OP play anyway, just too fragile, like the Bajoran. There is a video on YouTube of a guy flying an all Tholian fleet in an OP and it was a massacre, after turn 2 he was losing 1-2 ships a turn.

For casual or certain scenarios they will be a blast. Remember they are Independent so Khan, Karr, and Lore give you some high skill captains if you want. Hudson and Chakoytay can add slots. Val Jean and Hirogen also come with independent photons. 5 tholian ships with photons and high yield torpedoes could be a lot of fun

I expected more as well, I wanted to get a bunch of them for all tholian web placement list, but now I may get only one. I do like the one cost non-unique captian.

1) We finished the 2nd game of the Feds & Klingons at Archanis, but I have to sort through pics and write it up.

Kazon vs Hirogen or some other delta power like the viidians might be an idea. Other than what we see in Voyager, I imagine these various species clash on their own time.

I thought maybe a brief Voyager/Vidiian alliance vs Kazon. The wife mentioned playing long ways on 3x6, using all of the Kazon (9 ships) and see if Voyager can get through Kazon space.

I've seen a 100 point Tholian Fleet at Gencon 2014, and a local player had a 90 point Tholian fleet at an OP a couple months back.

Both times, the players got their butt handed to them.

The Tholian ships are just too weak. 2/2/2/2 for the named and 2/2/2/1 for the generic pretty much means they will always be one shot'ed by anything throwing 4+ attack dice... and you are playing the game wrong if you can't get 4 hits/crits (either by target locks, BS, re-rolls, or conversions) every time you throw attack dice. They are slow, but very maneuverable. The biggest downfall of them: The Energy Web costs 1/3 the cost of the ship, and restricts the ship even more- no more then a 1 move, limited turns, and it costs an action (unless you take Tholia 1- then it's a free action).

Honestly, I was hoping for a Tholian crusier in the high 20's point range (like maybe 3/2/4/2 or something), with some kind of action economy with the energy web- or better yet, a built in energy web, and a better upgrade bar.

The ship itself is a fantastic model! I love the translucent plastic bits. It really sets the ship apart.

This just looks like a way for players that never got one in the Episode OP to purchase one now. Maybe someday we'll see a Tholian cruiser!

Surprised that it has the same named, unique captain as the OP version. Is the named version of the ship the same as well?
Is this a sign of things to come for the OP prizes?

So I took a second look at the Haakona cards on The Hairy Gamers site (link below) to reread a few cards and found the last thoilian card was up.

Yup. They won't even get to fire it off once though, unless they have Picard and an Admiral + some other captain skill buff. If I saw this sitting on the table across from me, it would be my #1 target. Hitting a Tholian ship for 4 damage at range 3 is nothing.

I like to keep it in the context of its era. Not every ship will be the corner stone of an OP fleet, but in ENT, TOS or movie I-VI throwing 6 dice at something can be pretty strong.

It's fun and fluffy. I can appreciate that.

I think Wizkids are missing a trick by not breaking the game into 'early' and 'later' games. An 'early' game would see a revigorated boost in sales for these ships, which are so underpowered against the NG+ era ships.

Along those lines, I would really like heroclix style map/scenario packs. Similar to OPs (indeed, a viable alternative for distributing op kits once they cycle out... Hmm...) but as era specific packs. Could be much fun.

I'm not a fan of this idea. In game terms many of the older ships work well for support vessels. For fluff several ships cross different time periods, most notable are K'Tinga, Klingon BoP, Excelsior, and Miranda. In Best of Both Worlds there is wreckage of both Constitution and Salidin classes after Wolf 359. We also see a Constellation in Picards fleet in Redemption. So there is evidence that these older ships are still in service. Maybe not front line any more, but still kicking.

There are also races like the Bajorans, because of the occupation they are 50 years behind in technology. Same thing for Kazon their ships and all technology were stolen from the Trabe.

Dividing the ships into different games based on eras would just fracture things too much. It seems sales are fine, WK themselves said sales are exceeding expectations. Now what I would like to see would be campaign packs for sale instead of OP kits. Campaign packs could have terrain, cards and captains relevant to those episodes, stuff that there isn't enough for complete expansions. But the OP model works pretty well for WK, so they are unlikely to change any time soon.

Do what we do once in a while we have a ENT and/or a TOS night for all TNG or VOY and DS9 ships are out..

That's basically what we did for TOS nights, though we will eventually incorporate everything from Ent-ST 6.
