Hello fellow 40k players I was in the market for a cerastus knight titan and saw this ad on ebay: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/CERASTUS-KNIGHT-LANCER-99590108112-/251820781438?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3aa1b02f7e and I wanted to ask you guys if it looks legitimate to you or not. I do not want to buy a recast but the rice is good and I am stumped as to if it is real or not.

None of its warped or damaged... so id be weary.

In all seriousness it doesnt look like any recast I have seen, simply because they bothered to cast the sprew. Most recasters dont cast the sprew since its wasteful.

Based on the price, and the fact that it's in a legit (looks sealed) Forgeworld bag, I'd say it's likely that it is legitimate. Recasts generally come in generic baggies, and are also typically far, far less than retail price, or even 75% off. It also comes with instructions, and recasts almost never do.

It definitely looks legit. The components are the right color and are still on the resin sprues, the bag is correct and has the correct Product Sticker with the Part Number/Batch Number and from what I can see of the instructions, they look correct, even down to the Forge World disclaimers and safety warnings. I'd ask the buyer to verify that the kit is complete, and if so, buy it with a high degree of confidence that it is a legit Forge World kit.

One other thing to do: check their other items for sale. In this case they have lots of other FW stuff (often a bad sign), but it includes books and plastic GW kits in their original sealed boxes. Recasters don't bother with books (can't compete with pirated pdfs) and wouldn't invest the extra time and effort to make fake sealed GW boxes. So it's probably just someone getting out of 40k and selling their unfinished model pile, the remains of a store that went out of business, etc.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

The seller is in the Ukraine and may be going through some tough times considering the current situation over there. I could see him liquidating his stock given the situation.

I would like to point out that while BigMek is correct about the bag and instructions, recasts are often of the same color as their Forgeworld counterparts, as well as still being on the sprue, so those aren't necessarily surefire ways to tell.

On moon miranda.

I don't ever recall a recaster bothering to forge a FW bag. The model looks right, the bag looks right, the account doesn't look like it's selling a bunch of recasts, and it's going for *way* more than a recast usually would.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I don't know about recasters not doing the sprue. Anyone who is doing a larger scale business recasting might make full on molds that would leave a sprue and everything.

The baggies are unlikely though, so its most likely legit. But otherwise recasters often have identical or even greater quality than FW puts out.

No offence to the seller, but I have seen a lancer... That is way to little parts for a lancer... One thing I can't see the arms, Second where is the curved back? It can't be hiding under that instructions due to shape... Don't buy defiantly a scam! I think... Lastly, a forgeworld lancer is cheaper than that just get one from forgeworld, why did no one see this in the first place? (I COULD BE WRONG ON EVERYTHING HERE NO FLAME PLZ) Edit: Wait... I didn't understand the question entirely so basically some of this is wrong, but still that's so little parts heck my landraider has atleast triple that.

I thought all the FW knights were upgrade kits?

On the one hand I tend to be suspicious of anything coming from that part of the world, most all of it is recasts. But as others have pointed out, I've never seen a recaster use a forgeworld bag and include instructions. My best guess is it's legit.

I have two knights sitting on my desk right now, one of them still in the bag. It is definitely surprising how few parts they have, but the size of those bags are accurate to the size of what I have. I think it's mostly due to the fact that Knights are smaller than they seem, and also that they're made up of may small parts, rather than a few large ones. I think the top of my Razorwing is bigger than any single piece in the Knight kits.

alright guys it sounds like i'll take the plunge, the seller says that it is shipped with all the parts that forge world sent him so i'll have a case on ebay if something is amiss; lets hope that there's no severe unfixable warpage...

All resin kits have warpage -- no matter who they are. All have flash, miscasts, etc.

With that being said -- looks accurate. Sad thing though, I saw a FW knight and a recast done by some higher-end china based place -- they looked identical. Same color resin, same tooling marks... it was eerie.

Recast would be around 60-80 USD and they won't print a bag with the FW website adress.

Ukraine + Ebay = ALARM BELLS.

And here's the thing, just because he has a picture of the authentic model doesn't mean that's the model you'll get. That being said, his feedback is positive, with people saying item was as described.

I got some grot tanks off of ebay not too long ago, and the ad pictures looked authentic, but the models I got were NOT. Weren't even the same color.

However, they were cheaper, and good quality recasts, so I didn't make a fuss.

But just because he has an authentic picture doesn't mean that's what he'll send to you. But then again, most recasts coming out of Russia and china are pretty damned good, so that's not really a big deal.

And if it does come in, it is a recast, and it's poor quality, just open up an ebay ticket and get your money back (if you use paypal).

If it's a good price, and you want it, there's virtually zero risk to you.
