I played a game with 2 units of 5 deffkoptas (all with buzzsaws & rokkits ) in my Zhadsnark Bike list, and they did a lot better then I expected. All that speed, S6/7 AP2 buzzsaws, & rokkity goodness allowed me to pick my fights with them. My main 17 man bike unit drew all the attention allowing the deffkoptas to go wherever they wanted. I also had attached a Big Mek in each unit (w/ KFF & killsaw) in each unit. The big meks left to go squish vehicles, once the deffkopta escorted them, to the front lines.

During the game, my deffkopta units took out a 10 man tac squad, stormraven, a 5 man siguinary guard squad, 3 assault marines, and delivered 2 Big Meks to kill a Landraider.

I remember reading posts about a Warboss with scouting deffkoptas, but that's all I remember. I wanted to see anyone else has advice on running deffkopta units.

The Warboss gives them the ability to use Mob rule and makes use of Hit&Run thanks to I4. I was also thinking of using Buzzsaws, but 1-2 in a squad would be enough, I guess. Most use single Deffkoptas to grab objectives as the opponent usualy forgets about them.

You could use deffkoptas + KFF mek to keep up with blitz brigade.

I've considered koptas for a few things;

With a warboss you have a great scouting unit that can take some shots at AV, then turn 2 the warboss should hopefully be in place to make some assaults on either vehicles or small infantry units you know he will mulch (bullying). A painboy on bike adds quite a lot of durability to the unit and can be used in conjuction with either a warboss or big mek.

I agree that I dont think enough people have ran buzzsaws with dex. I think the increased focus on fast moving units could really help them out, as they provide some good rear armour hunting that can easily keep up. Plus as mentioned, you can run them in small units or upto 5, which gives them plenty of wounds. I advocate (as I dont have the models) that you run them more and get back to us! I'd love to hear more of your experiences and especially stuff such as;

How much fire they drew, whether the buzzsaws were worthwhile, how many buzzsaws you felt you needed (as I think you could have dropped from 5 -> 3 in each unit).

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

Well yes but scout wouldn't get conferred to the boss, but you could still use it as a sort of slingshot I guess...even though that would leave a line of koptas.

Funny though I was actually working on trying to integrate koptas in recently as well. I have a best friend that relentlessly uses trapdoor spider nids on me. I've hit the point where I'm done. I can't win against that army, so i thought...
But what if I took 3 squads of two? One thing I need to check before I commit is if wounds pile over to different units after the initial unit is killed. Can't find it in the book yet so if anybody has a page number that'd be awesome. Anyways, I figure I could either use them as (fairly expensive) fodder or if they're ignored they can jump in any fight and make a difference.

I like the idea of pain boys on bikes with them, but anything too scary (like nids) will throw smash or st 10 at them anyways. And pain boys mean that you will bring at least 4 or 5 in a squad.

Scout is conferred. Infiltrate is non-conferrable, its dependant on the rule. But scout confers last time I checked
Wounds piling over to different units? if you only have 2 koptas in 3 units (so 6 in total), then they can only apply wounds to 2 models at a time. Your other units of 2 can't have wounds allocated from the other units.

Yep, spot on.

There's a reason you can't find that rule, it doesn't exist
If you wipe out a unit, excess wounds are lost. They don't effect other units.

I use my five koptas with rokkits and nothing else, they keep finding new ways to earn their place in the warband.

Okay yeah, I wasn't thinking straight. Then I'd only have to worry about them drawing on cc wounds, so they don't run, right?
Clearly I'm a newbie here, thanks for the patience!

Also just realized I butchered using the quote there. I'll get the hang of it.

Had a 2nd game, this time against forgeworld renegade guard. The deffkoptas didn't far as well, but when they did hit a target (either shooting, or CC) they did a lot.

I think I'm going to run unbound next and try to give each unit a Painboy..

Have them hang at max range of their target and keep swooshing rockits at it. If they are ignored they are wonderful at causing damage and grief
