Okay, here's a question. Are the Guard "Heavy Tank Regiments" normally split up and doled out a'la the German independent platoons, concentrated for maximum force like the Soviet Independent Heavy Tank Brigades, or rigidly confined to their place in the command structure like any other armored regiment would be?
Is it still possible for a whole SHTR to fight together? Or are they split up without fail?

Is it possible for a Super Heavy Regiment to fight as a single unit? yes.
They are usually broken up to support other units. Usually but not always. Sometimes they are kept together as a massive sledge hammer of firepower.

So if I build a SHTR, then would two companies of baneblades, one company of Shadowswords, and one LRBT Company be fluffy?
Or what? I am unsure about the "lesser" companies in a SHTR if there are any!

Eh, if you look at my existing Armored Regiment, I can just convert to a SHTR by ditching 20 LRBTs and grabbing 3 more Baneblades. Should be easy - may be able to get even more Baneblades.
I have IAv1:2e but it's mostly about regular Armored Regiments and not SHTRs.

IA2 is about marines only (and some pages for inquisition)...
They are pretty scarce so its not very common to have that many SHT's around at the same time.
If its a very important campaign/battle then i dont see why there shouldnt be more SHT's around then usual.
Not sure about the SHTR as a whole though. Usage will vary depending on commander/army, so you can decide.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all. |

A Steel Fury Baneblade Company is made up of 3+ Baneblades, with one being the command vehicle. I'd assume 3-5 tanks is a typical company, with some support elements.
Your idea seems quite viable, but I'd also consider adding a couple squadrons of Hydras and a Stormlord as a Regimental commander.

I have one Hydra squadron and one Sky Eagle Manticore...
but why a stormlord? I assumed the heavy transports would be attached to the infantry regiments
