Hi Guys,

I just picked up the now discontinued 40K Urban Barricades and Walls off eBay. When they arrived I was quite disapointed in the quality. They are very brittle and some have cracked apart. Glueing them back together isn't really working either.

Does anyone own these? What are they like? I'm worried I've picked up some cheap knock offs.

Pics? Also, are you sure that's not how they're supposed to look?

Ha! Ha! I know they're sculped to look ruined, but they're definitely broken. I haven't found anyone anywhere saying that the barricades break easily and these feel like they will crumble if bumped.

I'm not sure, but are they perhaps finecast? If so, you're at the mercy of the material. A lot of finecast due not hold up well to basic wear and tear.

I did paint the set for my local gaming club and I cannot remember them feeling brittle and I didn't have to take special care in handling them in any way.

Is it possible they are recasts with a lesser resin?

Sounds like you got some recasts. We've had some in rotation for YEARS and they never ever get put up in any other way than being thrown in a box.The worst that's happened is snapping off of pointy parts, but that's to be expected.

No, those are (supposed to be) plastic. They should be very durable.

I think Granderer and jreiley may be right in that they could be resin recasts. But really... who recasts "broken" terrain bits? O.o

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the responses.

I suspected they might be resin recasts. This wasn't specified in the auction. It actually said "Citadel scenery". I've contacted the seller and await their reply.

I had a set of these directly from GW, they were resin before they were FC I think, so Hull83, if you were expecting them to be the same GW plastic as most of the buildings GW make, they wont be. They didn't come on sprues, but separately cast in a clear clamshell.

Well looked after they shouldn't be too brittle, but if you dropped one on a hard floor it would probably break in two or more pieces, whereas a GW plastic building would just bend, or if it broke would break along a glue line.

'Brittle' - not necessarily. 'More brittle than standard GW plastic' - definitely.

Yeah, the originals were resin, not plastic, although you just might have recasts. Resin does vary, and can be very brittle. Consider gluing them to plasticard (or thin wood) bases - that should give them a bit more strength. And yeah, don't just dump them in a box after games - resin needs to be treated with care.
