Whilst looking for some inspiration for a mechanized army, I came across the wiki entry for the Rhino Advancer:
http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Rhino_Advancer

It seemed to answer all my desires for an open topped imperial vehicle, and personally makes a lot of sense as a fighting platform for the astartes.
Also the model would be quite cool, as seen from this scratch built model:

I was wondering, does anyone know if there are any plans to ever implement this in the horus heresy series? If so at least I can have some hope of them featuring in my marine armies.

There hasn't been any word from FW yet (and they don't really hide too much of what they're working on) but it's not impossible. We just don't know yet.

I doubt we'll see a Rhino Party Bus, though. For moving the big units, we've already got the Spartan.

The rhino advancer was predominantly used by the Space Wolves so FW probably won't do one until they get to the Space Wolves in 30k. FW won't be addressing Space Wolves until the battle of Prospero sometime next year.

Yeah but they cost about 1/4 of your army, and your units inside can't shoot out of them.

That's ok for assault terminators, but I want a mobile bunker that lets my tac squads shoot to full potential.

Ok, thanks for the replies. Waiting for the SW 30k stuff it is :(

It's far from ideal, but counts-asing a Land Raider Crusader could work. The 'sponsons' represent the guys inside boltering away, same for the MM upgrade, and you can still assault out of it.

Would be cool to have a cheaper, Rhino-sized Assault Vehicle, though. An 'Assault' to the Razorback's 'Devastator' and the Rhino's 'Tactical' role, if you will.

Cheaper than a land raider certainly, but the fluff and art portray it as larger than a standard rhino. As it been portrayed an Advancer is more like the Sicaran in terms of size. It's not just an open topped Rhino it has a larger carry capacity. Given the large squad sizes in 30k, 10-20 marines, I'm gonna guess this will be a means to load up these large squads without using a Spartan.

honestly, this single unit would, if given to CSMs quite possiably solve a LOT of that codexes problems. given the two big things CSMs have for them is the potential for double squad sizes, and superior Melee capability. their weakness however is delivery systems
