Are high armour tanks effective against Tau eg land raiders and leman russ battle tanks (front armour)? Do Tau have a lot of weaponary that can pen high value armour?

No, but that's a very list-tailoring approach, since that kind of list is a disaster against many other armies.

I just need help with units that are good against broadsides and rip tides because I always lose badly to them.

Taking high AV vehicles is a very good idea vs tau. There are only 2 threats to worry about: Hammerheads and fusion suits.

Fortunately the hammerhead only has 1 shot per turn, and as an IG player you have access to lots of infantry to help bubblewrap your tanks vs the suits.

I say go for it. Pask in a punisher and an executioner in his squad should do the job.

Buyer beware, his riptides and commanders (if they have the gauntlet thing) can punch your tanks to death. Also firewarriors can all get EMP which will wreck any vehicle. But yes av14 is your best bet as everything else is going to get blown away. Also consider camo nets so he has to waste markerlights to ignore cover i stead of buffing his BS.

My favorite thing to do was to get a DA librarian with the power field generator in a naked infantry squad Hiding behind pask.

Pask punnisher, lascannon, meltas, relic armor
Buddy executioner, lascannon, plasma
AV14 with a 4+ invul, 4+ deny the witch possibly prescienced or if not preferred enemy. Adds 95pts for the psyker, 70pts for a sniper scout squad with camo and 50pts for the infantry squad to take wounds for the psyker.

You can cut the infantry squad and use boter scouts to take wounds for the psyker. I know it costs a lot, you coud add another tank to your list. But you can fit the tippy toes of a lot of vehicles into the invul bubble. It cant be ignored by markerlights, its mobile and you wrap a divination psyker into the cost which is a bonus.

Long story short...AV 14 is the Astra Militarum's best hope against Tau in my experience. /rant

40k is as exciting as riding a pony, which doesn't sound very exciting.......

But the pony is 300 feet tall and covered in CHAINSAWS!

Thanks for the tips everyone.

Camo cloaks is a good idea as it will make him waste his marker lights on it.I should hopefully have 5 Armour 14 tanks so hopefully it will work

The only things I can think of are:

1) Heavy Rail Gun on the Hammerhead tank

2) Fusion Blasters which can be equipped on crisis suits, stealth suits and riptides. These are melta weapons with the melta rule but their melta range is 9"

3) Nova Charged Ion Accelerator at S9 Ordinance

If your opponent is playing riptides and broadsides spam (with buffmander) then your work might be cut out for you.

If you allow lords of war take a Typhoon or the baneblade variant that has ignores cover (forget the name). S10 ignores cover is great for dealing with broadsides.

Pask punisher is obviously a boss although id get him a budget eradicator for a buddie (put that looser at the front to tank and shoot at fire warriors).

Do you play objectives? If so is it Maelstrom or Old school?

A cad with a full centstar (biker chapter master + max grav cents + tiggy) is pretty awesome for nuking down a riptide a turn.

Basically if it isn't AP 2 Ignores Cover or putting out a heinous amount of shots (wyverns/pask/conscripts) its not worth taking against cheese fest tau.

Personally id just go 60 flesh hounds and 15 chaos spawn but im guessing your playing the good guys.
