They grant a 4+ invul if the unit moves right?
I just played a lynx in a tourney and the player didn't have the rules for it, but did show me rules for it, but did show me rules for a phantom Titan, and said they were the same.
Those rules said that after you roll to hit, you have to roll again to see if you actually hit. Your second roll is a 3+ or 4+ depending if the target moved. When I got back to my room I tried looking this up, but I only found the 4+ invul (ia 11). Was I looking in the wrong place?

I'm pretty sure GW's Apocalypse book has the latest rules for them.

I believe Eldar Titan Fields force you to reroll your hit and it has to hit on a 4+ Automatically Appended Next Post: I think it gets better when they move.

The holofields work as follows...
Roll to hit
If the attack hits, roll again to see if you actually hit (this works for blast and tamplates as well!)
If the vehicle/titan did not move in the prior movement phase - you will hit on a 3+. If it did move, its a 4+
The titan can still roll invul/cover saves should it have any available once you have inflicted glancing/penetrating hits as normal as holofields do not give a save

Ok thanks. I figured it was right. But I also thought there was a chance it was wrong because he didn't know some rules like how strength D worked, and didn't have the rules for the correct model to show me.
Got my lord of war dslapped with the very 1st shot he fired, so I ended up playing at a 600 point deficit for the whole game, and had a chance to pull it out at the end, but it was not to be.

Eldar holofields are pretty ridiculous given they stack exponentially invuln saves and cover saves.
Next time cast invisibility on your lord of war :-) although if your opponent goes first and rolls 6's on the D chart you just have bad luck.
The D rules are in the main rulebook of 7th edition, make sure you use this chart because it is much fairer than the old Apocalypse ones.

The eldar titan holofields are there because even their superheavies (except their biggest one) max out at 12 armor and are either skimmers(who can't jink) or walkers. If they didn't have the fields, normal antitank guns would rip them to pieces.

For the record - no, the biggest one caps out armour at 13...
and 24 hull points!
With holofields!
And when I have used it in the past... invisibility!

I play Tyranids. No invisibility. Just a 2+ cover save which are ignored on a 6. It actually happened to me twice at LVO. I was 4-2 and both losses came to lynxes d-slapping my Heirodule with my opponents 1st shooting attack. Once I had 1st turn and got to shoot 1st. Once I never got to do anything but deploy.
The Holofields are bs. At least on a 420 point model that loses nothing by moving. Maybe at 650 points it might be more reasonable.
I shot 8 haywire flamers and roughly 60 tl-devoured shots and 4 vector strikes at a lynx on a sky shield. Did 1 hull point. In the other game, I shot 60 tl-devourer shots at a lynx with no invul. Approximately 52 hits. Only 14 actually hit. I did 2 hull points. 2 consecutive attacks, I hit 11 times, but only actually hit 2 times. That is BS, and leaves you with much more of a feel bad experience than it should.

That sounds like bad luck more than anything - 52 hits halves down (4+) to 26 actual hits.
In fact the more I read your examples the more I think its just bad luck!
The lynx is only AV11 remember as well!

For tyranids the harridan is a good bet, it being a flier means it cant be targeted by 95% of D weapons (as they are blasts).

Unless the D weapon gains skyfire from an objective or other source!

No he's right holo fields are an extra special layer of silly. Saves on top of saves on top of saves. That is part of why they are apocalypse units - there is so much nasty that you can fling it's way. At 1850, it's a different story

I screwed up and let this become a thread about balance. My question was about the rules. My opponent was right. The only thing he got wrong was making me roll to see if vector strike actually hit. And initially I think he was saying that I had to reroll successful glances, but I think he was just not explaining the rules clearly, so I asked to see them.
