i really dont understand the desire to play small games as its so unbalanced at those point levels.

also all the builds that get labelled as broken never seem to be an issue in our games as you always have something to deal with everything and multiple stategies to throw into place during the course of a game.

So GW's rules aren't terrible, it's just meant to be played with several thousand dollar armies in order to be balanced? Just as planned, GW!

i agree the game was written to be played at the 3k-4k rangek plus. (and honestly you can get to that level under $500 for most armies, as our players have done) But yes Warhammer is and always has beena very expensive game/hobby, so onthing new there.

Care to elaborate on how you do that? I can barely field 1k points of IG for under 500 dollars. Around 550 dollars (from discount retailer) will get me 2k worth of harlequins with DE allies and that's actually cheap, relatively speaking. The only "cheap" army I can think of would be something like GK's or purists DE as their models actually are what you would call cheap, when you compare them them to other GW products of course.

Basically yes.

1250 is probably on the low end of what is balanced. You can get away with it, but the game really is best between 1500 and 2000.

Agreed. IG can't make anything strong at that level, neither can DA, SM, Orks or BA, heck I don't even think harlequins can field their minimum required detachment with any upgrades. Meanwhile you can have Eldars, Tyranids, Tau and Necrons that will absolutely stomp anything and didn't someone mention the fact that you're actually able to field the adamantium lance formation at 1250? Game over man, game over!

i dont have gaurd but my firend plays an ABG and he has 3750 and has spent only $500. One thing important to note is that is 3k games you can take a lot of upgrades so a 3k army is only 2x the size of a 1k army or similiar reference

Orks! ~28000
Chaos Dwarfs ~9000
Slaanesh ~14700

Well, arguably a comparison between large and small games is relevant to this discussion. Comparing and contrasting the benefits and downsides of large and small games is relevant to a discussion about a seeming rise in popularity of smaller games.

On a personal note, all of the games I've played in the last year or so (not many, but some) have been at 1000pts. Just long enough without being too long or too short, and makes you think about what to bring. However, it also leads to rock/paper/scissor matches where an armour heavy list runs up against one equipped for massed AV14 and the like.

Then again, at even higher points, you can just double or triple down on the absurd and ridiculous. I'd agree that ~1500 is a decent spot for TAC, or as close as you can get with the current state of the game.
