So, like most sane people I took one look at the Heavy Destroyer conversion kit, uttered "feth that" under my breath, noticed the price, said it again, this time aloud, and proceeded to kitbash my own Heavy Destroyers.

First pair, wielding Heavy Gauss cannons from the Triarch Stalker kit-

Second pair, wielding Heavy Gauss cannons assembled by cutting off the front half of the Destroyer kit's regular Gauss cannons and sticking them in front of the Gauss Blasters from the Tomb Blades kit (ironically, these look more imposing than the Triarch Stalker's Gauss cannons )-

For reference, these are the original "Heavy Gauss cannons" from the Heavy Destroyer conversion kit-

And these are the two normal destroyers I also assembled while I was at it-

In my opinion the conversion kit's Heavy Gauss cannon looks downright anemic even compared to the regular Gauss cannon that comes with the basic Destroyer kit, it's kind of hilarious that they charge 5.5 GBP for it...

I agree, the long doubled up barrel for a 'heavy' looks in no way heavy compared to the regular Destroyer model.

That first picture REALLY looks like what a Heavy Destroyer should. Six gauss tubes as opposed to four on the regular one. That dude definitely looks like he means business!

Good work, looking forward to see the paint jobs!

Thanks!

I wouldn't hold my breath regarding the painting bit though- I've got 3 Wraiths, 10 Lychguards, 10 Immortals, 5 Praetorians, 2 Annihilation Barges, an Overlord and a Tomb Blade still on the sprues as well as 14 kitbashed Flayed Ones in dire need of arms and fleshy bits and another 6 who have arms but no fleshy bits yet.

Once all these are done they'll join the ranks of my unprimed models, which already include 5 Lychguards, 10 Praetorians, a Triarch Stalker, a couple of Immortals, an Administratum building, a Battlescape terrain piece and the aforementioned 6 destroyers.

Next step would be to spray prime the whole lot, then I'll airbrush everything Necron to a Mithral Silver base coat.

At this point I'll be ready to start more detailed work on stuff, with the Stalker taking precedence since it's the one model I don't have in my existing army yet that can't be assembled to playable levels before it is painted.

At some point along the way I hope to learn how to do proper detailed work with an airbrush, as currently my airbrushing skills can be summed up as "spray and pray"...

Those heavy destroyer conversions are similar to what I did! I used the gauss from the annihilation barge to extend the barrel of the regular destroyer.

Don't mind the paintjob, its not finished yet )

Edit; i just saw the barrel looks a bit bent, but I can assure you its not! photo trickery it seems (maybe because it was taken at a slight angle or something).

Heh, your barrel is thicker since you used the Gauss cannon bit to extend it but mine has a bigger "radiator unit" in the back since I used the Tomb Blade's bit for it.

I don't know what you're talking about regarding the paint job- that's already much better than anything I've ever painted...

Yeah I quite like the radiator unit on yours. I might need to find a way to enlarge mine I was wondering, on the one where you used the tomb blade gauss, does the first part have 2 barrels or 4? I cant really see in the picture.

They are also better than anything I ever painted, but my gf is quite a bit better than me (which makes me very happy when she paints my models )

2 barrels I'm afraid, though if you're willing to spend the bits for it you could replace just the radiator section. The nice thing is the fact the Tomb Blade's Gauss Blasters have a ball joint socket of the same kind as the Destroyer's Gauss cannon, so it's really easy to convert.

Lucky ...

I have a friend who painted a bunch of models for me back in the day. Sadly he's started doing commission modeling so the last model he volunteered to paint for me has remained at the bottom of his to-do list for half a year now...

Here's some of the models he painted for me-

Here's my Szeras, my own finest paintjob thusfar (for comparison)-

I like both his and yours tbh! although he seems to use an airbrush, which gives cool effects that arent that easy to reproduce with a brush ^^

I've seen him paint a model of Athena holding a sword and shield that looked like the shield had a goddamn reflection on it.

Trust me, the guy can paint...

i randomly had three destroyer bodies without gun arms
two became lord destroyers from one kit that upgrade kit is actually worth it
the third is sitting there in my models box without a gun arm :(

It's fairly trivial to convert a decent Destroyer Lord from a regular destroyer without the conversion kit. Here's mine-
