Subject: Fluff for a friends Space Wolves Successor chapter.

Hey all, a friend asked me to rewrite the fluff for his space wolves successsors, and I wanted your oppinions. Mind you its not entirley finished, only in the earliest stages of rough draft. Basicaly, msot of the chapter goes chaos, there is a big fight with the traitor marines trying to kill off the loyalist marines, the surviving loyalists remain as leviathans, hunting down their traitor bretheren. the traitor portion join up with his chaos warband.
Chapter: Leviathans
Faction: Space Wolves
Battle cry: Howls, Bestial cries of rage
Home world: Breanna
Founded: M34
Primarch: Leman Russ
Colors: Black, red, gold
Founding
997.M33 – 043.M34: A small fleet of space wolves set out from Fenris to assist fellow Space Wolves engaged against a sizable ork Waagh. However, when the fleet entered the warp, the Gellar fields faltered and navigational tools failed. Through monstrosities from the warp, a task force of marines had found that a genestealer cult had embedded themselves throughout the fleet. For 50 years the Marines fought daemons and Tyranids to regain control of their fleet. With no shielding and exposed to the warp, their gene seed mutated and their minds twisted into a mockery of their once proud selves. Many went mad, either to be put down by their brothers, or to turn on them in their insanity. Over three fourths of the initial Space wolves had been lost, leaving entire Ships Echoing with the howls of the mad, and the laughter of the dark gods. Those Marines that did survive were permanently scarred. The extended proximity to the warp had altered the Curse of the Wulfen within their genes. Their mannerisms and physical appearance had changed, and the marines lost their ability to communicate with other sentient races. However, unless others who succumbed to the curse, the marines managed to hold onto their psyche, leaving their super-human minds, trapped inside the bodies of beasts.
On only one ship had the tyranids been eradicated and order held, the fleet’s flagship: Purgatory. With the few surviving Iron Priests working to repair the ship. Two Figures stood to lead the remaining Wolves: Fortinbras the Savage and Koenlai the Calm. The surviving Marines on board were raised to veteran status, and named the first company of a new successor chapter: The Leviathans. Exiting the warp in 043.M34 close to the Imperial hunting reserve of Breanna, they claimed this planet as their home world, and began to rebuild.
The great Betrayal
047.M37 – 155.M39: When the warp altered the Leviathan’s minds a psychological tick was set, and many of the Leviathans slowly fell to the influence of chaos. Captain Triton of the 3rd company was the first to truly feel the influence of chaos. After a costly battle with the Cauterizer chaos war band, Triton began to hear the voices of his fallen brothers, goading him to more reckless acts of violence on the battle field. Following these voices, He began down the path of the dark gods, and began to sway his brother marines to his cause.
Within 20 years, the entire 3rd company had fallen to chaos, any loyalist stragglers having mysteriously died on the battlefield. As Triton’s Influence grow, so did his feats upon the battle field. As stories of his deeds swept through the chapter, many of his brothers began to revere Triton, and follow his teachings. By the time the 3rd company was back to full strength, 4 of the 6 companies had fallen to the teachings of Triton and chaos. With the help of their once rivals, the cauterizers, Triton planned the downfall of the remaining loyal Leviathans.
The battle of Attilon Prime
155.M39 - 156.M39: A small imperial planet by the name of Attilon Prime was where triton decided to set his plan into motion. Positioning the 3rd and 4th companies around the planet, Triton called for Chapter Master Fortinbas and the rest of the Leviathans to come assist in the eradication of the much hated traitor marines. Seeing this as a chance to make good on a long standing vow, Fortinbas readied the remaining four companies and set for Attilon Prime. As soon as the Astartes fleet had arrived, Triton requested that the 1st and 2nd company lead the assault. Landing in the ruins of the planets capitol, 3 days of fierce fighting and with over half of the 3rd company lost, Fortinbas called for the remaining Leviathans to make planet fall, not yet aware of Triton’s betrayal. Triton first sent any remaining loyalists within the chapter down into the waiting maw of the chaos horde. Immediately after the loyalist marines had landed, the company’s fleet bombarded their former brothers, decimating the loyalist Leviathans. The few survivors soon found themselves ambushed and picked apart by the chaos marines.
The 1st and 2nd companies, still in the dark, rejoiced as they heard that the entire might of their chapter would be landing to support them. As the rest of the Leviathan chapter arrived on the field of battle by drop pod and teleports, the loyalist companies was sure of their victory. But when the Chaos forces continued to bombard the entrenched marines, they saw their newly arrived brothers stand shoulder to shoulder with the traitors. It then dawned on Fortinbas and Captain Argo, the full extent of the spread of chaos. With a cry of triumph Captain Titon had claimed the Leviathan Chapters as His own, and devoted himself fully to the powers of chaos. Bellowing at the top of his lungs, with speed and strength augmented by chaos, Triton Lead the charge against His former brothers.
Fortinbas and his honor guard moved to meet Triton’s Challenge, and they met in a titanic clash. Fortinbas’ honor guard combating Triton’s champions. As Fortinbas and Triton clashed again and again, neither side landing a mortal blow, Veteran Sargent Demojack of Fortinbas’ honor guard Attacked Fortinbas from behind. Following his signal, half of the honor guard turned on the other, overpowering the now outnumbered marines. Demojack had landed a crippling blow to Fortinbas, and stood aside for Triton to finish him off. As Triton readied to end his former Chapter Master, devastator squad Opispo flew into the brawl in a desperate bid to save their Commander, Opispo himself challenging Triton to save Fortinbas. Opispo did not last long against the power of Triton, and within seconds was wounded beyond repair. As more marines charged into the combat, Triton was separated from his chance to end Fortinbas.
While the two large forces clashed in the capitol, many smaller conflicts were sparking across the planet. The remaining loyal marines fighting tooth and nail for both vengeance and survival. At the head of one such battle was the rune priest, Koenlai. Warding his brothers and conjuring walls to slow the traitors, Koenlai and the few remaining marines with him pushed north to the capitol, where they hoped allies were still standing. Conjuring massive storms to obscure their positions, they made slow progress. While traversing a valley mere miles from their destination, they were attacked by the Cauterizers. With traitors assaulting from both sides, Koenlai ordered his marines to focus fire on a weak point in the chaos line, and pushed into an ancient cave system to entrench and attempt to hold off the traitor marines. It was in the caves that the remaining marines were attacked by the daemon prince, INSERT NAME HERE. Effortlessly slaughtering the most veteran of the marines, INSERT DAEMON PRINCE HERE stalked the survivors effortlessly. With little remaining ammo, Koenlai led the marines back to the mouth of the cave and ordered them to continue to the capitol, himself waiting behind to slow the daemon and any traitors following them.
Of the 400 loyal marines, less than 40 made it out of the city into the surrounding country side. What followed was 5 long months of guerrilla warfare as the surviving loyalists scrounged the planet for any support, coming upon another 25 surviving marines. In a desperate bid for survival, the 65 marines, led by Fortinbas, and two surviving Captain, they assaulted the planets space port, hoping to find one intact cruiser.
Repair of the Gene Seed
After a desperate battle, the loyalists were lucky enough to find an intact lander, and left the warzone, harboring new grudges, and fresh wounds. Evading their tainted brothers, they fled across the stars, hounded by the ever vengeful chaos marines. However, it was during a warp jump, that another Gellar field malfunction caused a similar force to the one that had once enhanced the wulfen mutation, regressed the effects in some, returning less than half of the surviving marines back into their sane forms. As a minor conflict occurred over dominance, with Captain Argo and the reverted marines wanting to return to Fenris, and Fortinbas half blinded by rage wanting revenge against the traitors. The two bickered for weeks until the argument finally came to blows. Though Fortinbas was still wounded from the battle on Attilon, he was still older, wiser, and stronger. The two fought for many hours. Argo seemingly pushed to the edge of forfit, then bouncing back to a strong position, and Fortinbas bearing down with all the rage of a lone wolf. Finally, through endurance alone, Fortinbas had been the last one standing, and maintained his dominance over the remaining loyal Leviathans. Though little blood was spilt, both sides harbored resentment both between each other and themselves for turning on their brothers so quickly.
The battle of Impetias Prime
It was after this warp occurance that they returned to real space in the Prodito system, near Impietas prime, that their brothers caught up to them. Desperate, and with little else to fall back on, they sent out a call for help, and began to entrench on the planet as best they could. For two weeks the chaos forces bombarded the planet, leveling mountains and ruins, yet doing little to the space marine’s fortifications. It was on the verge of the 3rd week that the traitors made planet fall, and shortly thereafter that the Plea for help was answered. Above the planet, a combined fleet of mechanicus ships and an adeptus astartes battle fleet assaulted the traitor fleet. Though many traitor marines had made landfall, they were met with fierce resistance as more and more traitors converged onto the leviathan positions, the 1st and 2nd companies of the howling griffons chapter made planet fall in the traitor positions. A massive battle broke across the planet. Later joined by the 3rd company, the traitor forces were forced to leave planet, most of their combined fleet lost, they fled into the warp, and continued to raid.
Aftermath of Impetias
Both the howling griffons, landed mechanics, and leviathans took heavy losses. Half of the 1st company and all but 20 marines and the chaplain of the 3rd company were lost in battle (griffons). And of the 65 leviathans who made it away from their former brethren, only 15 marines were left, and taken in by the howling griffons, a request was sent to the Space wolves to loan gene seed and marines to their long lost kin. The request as answered in force as over 100 (was 300 pre edit) marines were given over to their new successor chapter.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field. |

I... actually don't know. Help?

Nice read! Although, I don't think 'Leviathans' is the best name for a SM chapter. Why? Hivefleet Leviathan.

A SPACE WOLVES successor?
seriously, if you're going with that you may as well have them ride robo-unicorns into battle, eat butterflies, crap rainbows and all of their mothers are genestealers.

No just no, there are no SW sucsessors chapters, due to the reason that the Canix Helix(spelling?) dose not work with people not of Fenris. Please stick to the basic elements of the SW fluff, even if this is purely for fan use.
But beside that glaring point it reads well. With some alterations it would work for a warband of traitor Sw

again, this is my friend's chapter, and I do have to agree with you though, I didn't like the idea of successor space wolves, just doing this as a favor.

Yep, beating the dead horse here, but there are no Space Wolves successors. They could be wolf-themed, if that's what he's after, or the viking theme, or the rebellious badass theme, but not all together.

The Tyranids had not yet made an appearance in the galaxy in M34. That's about 7000 years too early.
The Tyranids also don't travel through the Warp. At all. Gene-stealers are part of the Tyranid Hive Fleets, and also would not have been present in the Warp, or found within the crewmembers of a Space Wolf vessel, since all of those people would have been native Fenrisians.
With so many combat losses, and being wild, mutated freaks, how is this "Chapter" replenishing its losses? In like seven different places, you describe the Chapter as rebuilding its various companies... how are they doing this? Especially with no viable geneseed or Rune Priests to oversee the implantation process that turns an adolescent boy into a Space Marine?
Breanna is a Paradise World. That means its population is *incredibly* low. We're talking, like, a few hundred people, at the most... roughly half of whom (at least) will be female, and thus not eligible for becoming Space Marines.
How in the hell does the entire 3rd Company fall to Chaos, but the Chapter Master (Fortinbas) not notice?
For ships so wrecked the feth up in a Warp Jump Gone Bad, how are they getting from Breanna to Attilon Prime?
Space Wolf geneseed doesn't work in someone who isn't from Fenris. Anyone they implant this into is going to mutate and die horribly. Also, 300 Space Wolves is like 2 entire Great Companies.... Logan isn't going to give up that many of his Wolves. If this off-shoot is lucky, a squad will show up to find out who the hell they are, find out how fethed up they are, and give them the Emperor's Mercy.

while I personaly agree with most of your points, and I am trying to get him to change it, Genestealers have been around since about forever, if I am not mistaken, they just weren't taken as tyranids yet, or are the genestealer cults newer than I though?
Unfortunately, I've talked with him, and the only change he is willing to make is to add the recruiting world of catachan

Genestealer Cults are newish, but Genestealer broods were found on Space Hulks in like M34.
However, it's a hell of a jump from "ancient, deteriorating hulk of a starship in deep space" to "aboard this Space Marine Battle-barge. In the Warp."
Also, if these freaks landed on Catachan, they'd die. Within minutes. Less, if Marbo saw them.

Don't worry about the whole SW fluff thing, I would avoid it by saying that their descendants of the Wolf Brothers, it would make a little more sense and the Dark Wolves are renegade wolf brothers so it could be a bit more fluff friendly that way. Before anyone rants about the SW gene seed being unstable it is still viable to create marines it mostly means that you're chapter is going to have a lot of models with the curse if Wolfen and that's not so bad, so while 1 in 1000 have what it takes to be a marine it's 1 in 10000 who can become a non fenrisian space wolf

Wolf Brothers are all dead. They are why SW can't have descendants. They proved that only Fenrisians can have SW geneseed, and died doing it. Also, the Wolf Brother geneseed WAS SW geneseed, so they would still be SW descendants.
Why would they take geneseed from a renegade chapter? How do they obtain geneseed from a renegade chapter? If anything, it is less fluff friendly.
The Space Wolves can only keep at strength because they are the only chapter that recruits from Fenris. Anyone else would be unable to create Space Marines.

According tohttp://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Wolf_Brothers
The wolf Brothers are not all dead their chapter was liquidated By the ordo astartes and it is suspected leman Russ had helped them escape, it could be that not all fell to chaos and a few are just renegade space marines. So it wouldn't be far fetched to say the few non chaos brothers founded a new chapter.
