I don't understand the S&V salvaged astromech "Genius"

if you drop the bomb after you maneuver, won't you be caught in the range 1 blast as well? Is the name Genius supposed to be ironic? Is it possible that with an engine mod + the 1 straight "drop bomb" template you could actually escape the range of the bomb or is it purposefully designed to hurt you as well?

I just don't get it

He gives you options, especially with Kavil who can be equipped to move late (PS7 or PS9 with VI) so that you'll know what you're likely to be affecting when you drop that bomb. It is limited in it's uses, but that is also why he is a zero point mech.

I mean I kind of understand the "drop bomb after maneuver" instead of before part, but I can't for the life of me understand the unspoken "you're either getting 1 damage or a face up damage card depending on which bomb you choose". It doesn't seem worth it. Especially on Kavil who wants that R4 agromech for the 4-dice target locked Blaster turret

Scum ships tend to have a "frell me? No sir, FRELL YOU" mentality. A Y-Wing taking 1 shield damage from a bomb to drop a damage on an unshielded ship is certainly something I can see happening.

Having an Engine Upgrade is the only way I can see to get out of range 1 of the bomb. Range 1 is two and a half ship bases, and after a boost you would be three ship bases away from the bomb.

Yes, that's why his name is in scare quotes.

Also, here is FFG design philosophy behind this card:
For example, the Most Wanted Expansion Pack allows you to outfit your Y-wings with a Bomb Loadout , and you might want to complement your Bomb Loadout with the Salvaged Astromech upgrade, “Genius.” If your Y-wing pilot has a lower pilot skill value, “Genius” adds another layer of mind games to your activation phases, forcing your opponent to guess whether or not this is the round that you’re going to deploy your Proximity Mines or drop your Proton Bomb, then guess whether you’ll do so at the beginning of your maneuver or at the end of it. “Genius” can be even more aggravating and aggressive if your Y-wing pilot has a high pilot skill value. Now, your opponent has all the same questions to ask himself, but if your Y-wing moves after your opponent’s ships, you can see exactly what’s going to happen when you drop your bombs. Sure, if you drop them at the end of your maneuver, your Y-wing is going to take the hit, too, but it has five hull and can likely survive the hit.
