Join us here at Warhammer World for an unforgettable experience of pure hobby indulgence!

At Throne of Skulls, you’ll get to lead your army through battle, over incredible terrain, facing fully painted armies led by like-minded opponents. You will fight for glory in the arenas of gaming, painting, sportsmanship and more. Grab your collection of miniatures, head to Nottingham for a hobby experience like no other.

Venue: Warhammer World, Nottingham
Age Limit: Attendees must be aged 12 or over. Games Workshop cannot take legal responsibility or guardianship for children who stay in Warhammer World for (for any length of time). That will always remain with parents/guardians of those children. Please consider this before leaving any children you are responsible for at Warhammer World.

Your ticket includes five great games over the two days, a hot lunch on Saturday and Sunday, and the chance to be included in painting competitions. For Throne of Skulls you need to bring a fully painted and based army in line with the event pack for the particular event you are attending, which you can find below. Don’t forget to also bring your gaming materials such as dice, tape measure, books and any templates you will be using!

Each event has a pack to explain what makes it unique, and you’ll find the basics you need to know at the core of Throne of Skulls here. Event pack: Coming soon -

June 13th & 14th The Old World crumbles, trodden under the feet of countless warriors as they march to decide it’s fate. Take huge armies and mighty heroes to war as Throne of Skulls returns to celebrate The End Times. Event pack: Coming soon

June 20th & 21st Huge armies clash in the scarred battlefields of the 41st Millennium as you lead your force to war. Using larger armies than ever before, the Maelstrom of War missions and the option to take Unbound forces, Throne of Skulls is back with an apocalyptic bang. Event pack: Coming soon -

This suggests to me at least then that any new edition of WFB will not be before early to mid June then right ?

Alternatively, it means that the current batch of 9th edition rumours hold about as much water as harry/hastings previous rumour about a blood bowl re-release.

Seems unlikely to have a tournament for a new edition just after its released, that would not give anyone time to built, rebase and paint their new armies. Unless its 10 - 20 minis per army

Could another possibility be that this will be the "final bow" for the current edition, and GW will "surprise" the attendees with the announcement of the new edition?

That's what I was thinking. Seems like a perfect time to make the announcement.

Of course there could be a bit of a riot as well, depending how vested some of the attendees might be...

There's also the possibility that the WHW organizers don't know when 9th Ed is going to be launched.

Indeed, that's by far the most likely.

From my knowledge of how GW operates internally now, it is very unlikely the Warhammer World team have much of an idea about what comes beyond, or indeed of the content of, the Archaeon End Times book.

Since we announced the dates of our first Battle Brothers and Throne of Skulls events, we’ve had a lot of questions about when event packs will be available.

We’ll be using a new set of packs, with a core pack containing the general event details, and then a smaller pack specific to each event. So once you’re familiar with an event format, you only need to read the smaller pack for the event you’re coming to!

The final details are being double checked, and packs will be available on March 16th. Read them as soon as the packs are available, by signing up for email alerts direct to your inbox! -

No LOTR/WOTR/Hobbit/whatever.

Which is kinda expected -- and still might be events moving forwards -- but is, one suspects, somewhat telling there.

Still looks like the WFB stuff appears to be set in/around the current timeline and events and certainly like End Times rules....

So the rules packs are out, and it's basically a bring whatever you like outside of HH, and the most sporting opponent is the winner. No gaming based prizes basically. The pertinent points:

For both 40K & WHFB:

FAVOURITE GAME VOTES

Favourite Game Votes are simple - just pick the game you enjoyed the most that weekend. It’s a great way to acknowledge a really fun game, an opponent with whom you had a great rapport, or maybe it was just that their army looked fantastic. Votes are taken at the end of the weekend with the results of your final game, so please show your appreciation of your favourite opponent.

SCORING: HOW TO WIN THE THRONE OF SKULLS
Throughout the event, you’ll earn Victory Points in your games. At the end of each game, simply record how Victory Points you earned for primary and secondary missions combined. How many Victory Points you score will determine your position in the final rankings of the event. At the end of the weekend, we will call all of the players who have earned the most Favourite Game votes to the stage. Of these players, the one who has scored the most Victory Points will be awarded the legendary Throne of Skulls trophy. Only players who themselves handed in a Favourite Game vote are eligible.

WHFB:

Army Size: 2500 points
Number of games: 5

Army Selection: We will be using the army selection rules presented in the Warhammer rulebook including all additional End Times content, with an extra 25% available for Scrolls of Binding. For full details see Muster your Forces below.

Scenarios in use: Pitched Battle Scenarios

Publications in use: All Warhammer publications from Games Workshop, including Black Library, White Dwarf and Warhammer Forge.

MUSTER YOUR FORCES
Since the advent of Archeon armies no longer have their usual composition - therefore you may choose any unit from any current Warhammer publication. The only rule is the combined total cannot exceed 2500 points per army.

40K:

Army Size: 1875 points
Number of games: 5

Army Selection: Battle Forged or Unbound(you choose - see Choosing Your Army on p116 of Warhammer 40,000: The Rules).

Scenarios in use: Maelstrom of War (randomly determined).

Publications in use: All Warhammer 40,000 publications from Games Workshop, including Black Library, White Dwarf and Forge World (excluding Horus Heresy publications).

Aweful rules pack in my opinion.

I quite like it. You have to win probably four/five games with an army no-one finds objectionable and be the kind of player people would like to play against again, win or lose.

So no new WFB rules before June(ish) then.

1875.... what a random number.

Fair enough; Unbound armies are a thing, and I'm fine with it being formalised in GW events.

I kind of like the idea in some ways; the concept is that the winner is the most successful player who's actually fun to play as an opponent, and if you're a complete TFG you have absolutely zero chance of winning, whatsoever. Which I approve of wholeheartedly

The 'warhammer unbound' is intriguing. The fact that there's no army list restrictions at all means you could find yourself facing anything. I always wanted to do a dragon/monster army for warhammer - it'd be interesting to finally try it.

.....Oh. I've just realised why the 40k value is 1875. It's the points value for five Imperial Knights. Joy.

I have to admit I really like the idea of the scoring system, and the fact that Unbound is an option.

Hopefully it will mean less "ctrlC ctrlV" armies and more fun games.

But yes 1875 is no doubt to allow Knights, which is a shame but then again if you don't like playing against them the player won't get many votes so balances out.

I am all for encouraging fun and gentlemanly games, will be interesting to see if that's what happens.

Are there no painting prizes though?

I'm also gutted as I would have loved to have gone but it's the one weekend I can't do as it's our busiest week at work. :(
