My understanding is that there is a 5+ cover save when shooting through a friendly or unfriendly unit. Is there any cumulative cover save for shooting through more than one unit? For example if a hive tyrant on the ground is shooting at a stalker and there are two enemy units and one friendly unit between the hive tyrant and the stalker is the cover save still 5+? dsf

The rule does exist.
It is not cumulative. You have a single cover (probably the highest available) with any bonuses from abilities like shrouded or stealth adding to it. but you cannot have multiple pieces of cover. You either are covered or you are not.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Intervening Models
If a target is partially obscured from the firer by models from a third unit (models not from the firer’s unit, or from the target unit), it receives a 5+ cover save in the same way as if it was behind terrain. Similarly, if a model fires through the gaps between models in an intervening unit, the target is in cover, even if it is completely visible to the firer.
As Lance845 says, and as the rule reads, it is not cumulative.

HOWEVER! make sure your opponent can actually see the unit hes firing at, I have had games where my opponent shot through 1-2 of his own units to hit me and when we actually checked he literally could not see my models because of his in the way.

I come in peace. I didn't bring artillery. But I'm pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you mess with me, I'll kill you all

A rule the states your cover save accumulates the more units you fire through does NOT exist.
