I was just having a flick through the rule book, and noticed sky fire lets you use your normal bs when shooting at skimmers, and yet I can't find anything in the book that means shooting a skimmer is different to normally shooting a vehicle. Is there anything I have missed?

yeah, skimmers are basically normal for 99% of the shooting rules, only exceptions I've found are the skyfire thing and they're not in the list for units affected by strafing run. I'm pretty sure they were added to the skyfire rules to make skyfire weapons ever see the board.

Skyfire simply doesn't give the 'snapshot-only' penalty when firing at a Skimmer. A Skimmer is not treated any differently than any other non-Flying vehicle for shooting purposes.

No. Snap Fire isn't only for not snap firing at hard to hit units. It put restrictions on what that shooting attack can't hit at BS then says what it can shoot normally. So when it can hit a skimmer normally it's because it lifted its own restriction, not a restriction on hitting skimmers (because there isn't one).

So the reference to skimmers in the sky fire rule is a mistake then?

No. Normal shots and Skyfire shots both hit at normal BS against Skimmers.

Otherwise, if a model was firing a Skyfire weapon, it would have to snapfire to hit Skimmers.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

As someone already said, its just a way GW is hoping to sell more models that have Skyfire, otherwise very few armies would take a anti-air unit.

No. If that reference wasnt there, then Skyfire would make you snapshot against skimmers.
