So Warpdoom says that when a non-vehicle model or monstrous creature loses its last wound, every unit in 6" suffers a D6 S5 AP- hit. Does this happen at the end of the wielder's Initiative phase and does it proc for each wound (say 5 Ork boys were killed)? Second, do these wounds count towards combat resolution?

The Warpdoom may be a really good choice for hoard control

It actually says "If a non-vehicle character or Monstrous Creature loses it's last wound to an attack coming from a Staff of Change it immediately explodes"

So no triggering on Ork Boyz. It would trigger on an Ork Nob leading the Boyz though. It would also trigger multiple times if you managed to kill multiple characters in one round of combat (say if there were some Independent Characters all grouped up).

Well, that sucks, but it does give me an idea. So in combat, I should always challenge with my DP, because if he backs out, then he doesn't swing, but if I kill him, I explode his unit immediately, correct?

Well yeah, if the character in question has no fancy saves or is otherwise quite likely to get pummelled then sure. I mean the explosion is not super-dangerous (its D6 S5 AP- hits to every unit friend or foe within D6"), but it is 'free' damage on the unit that you're fighting. Just keep in mind that you will hit yourself too, so maybe try to avoid killing a character if you are desperate to avoid losing a wound.

True. I'm just considering most of the units I fight aren't Space Marines or Termies (Cron Warriors, Dark Eldar, Nidz), so that D6 S5 will kill most rmies with poor armor saves. I know, it sucks that it's on my own guy, but that's why I take the armor, so he has a 3+ re-rolling 1's

Bear in mind the rules concerning single model units and challenges.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

What do you mean? I know that in a challenge, his unit will still be able to hit me, but if he declines, I can choose which character doesn't fight. Is that what you are referencing?

No, it's that if he challenges you cannot refuse.

But that doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. I'd be fighting his challenger either way, the challenge just lets me attack him directly.
