I do apologize if this is in the wrong section.

one of my threads was deleted shortly after it was made.

I was curious as to why?
If I broke any rules I'd like to know so I don't repeat the same mistakes in the future.

I was asking for the rules on Tau Tetras.

Since I don't want to spend $50 on a book for 1 unit.

If that helps anyone.

Can he ask for general information, as long as they don't post statlines and specific quotes?

Sure -- for example, he could post a "are Tetras any good?" or "how do you use Tetras" type thread in 40k tactics. You just can't straight up say, give me the rules for X or something similar.

Ah, alright.

I was confused because there are already several threads like that giving out the old rules of the Tetra.

Thanks to all for the replies.

It all depends on the mod who's moderating the post. Sometimes, a post with detailed information, mostly in N&R, gets passed whereas on other occasions, it gets redacted. Your safest bet is to just post parts of the rules, i.e. when talking about T values of unit X and Y.

...and...well...if you are looking for rules without paying, a discussion forum isn't the right place...

Yeah, we cut a little more slack in N&R, but for the most part rules getting posted should only be those that are relevant to the discussion. So it's ok to post excepts from a unit entry, or quote sections of the rules in a rules discussion... But the forum is not a replacement for buying the book.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

'Is there a legal free to download profile for Tetras?'
...would have been a fair question.

Forgeworld do publish stats on their website from time to time.

Did a Google search and found this:

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/t/Tauupdate.pdf

Tetra rules, straight from Forgeworld, so legal to download and legal to link.

I would grab a copy for your hard disk, Forgeworld normally dont post rules links for long, and withdraw them when the next suitable army book comes out. But it doesnt look like they will update Taros Campaign for 7th Ed 40K for a while.
As with most Forgeworld stuff there are one of two gems the resut overpriced junk, though they have got better over time.

So for the record:

Tetras are by far the best Forgeworld unit for Tau. They are very cheap for what they pack a Heavy 4 Markerlight. They are the cheapest means of bringing markerlights to the table. Fast scouting vehicle too.

The Hammerhead upgrades are improved and now worth a look, but in general you need the railgun more than crisis suit weapons with an improved ROF. Avoid.

The Drone Sentry Turrets are worth taking, in a battlesuit or vehicle heavy list, because cheap well armed Armour 12 vehicles are a pain to kill. I recommend the missile pod versions to get a long ranged weapon, the burst cannon will be out of targets most of the time.

Don't bother with heavy drones the sentry turrets completely overshadow them being far more resilient for the same cost.

The Kroot stuff isnt worth having, the Knarloc sounds useful, but it has no save and costs almost as much as a basic carnifex. It wont last long enough to be a tarpit, or cause damage enough to be a counterattack unit unless you pay a lot of points for the herd. Not worth it.

XV81 and XV 89 Command suits are overpriced for what they bring. The XV81 has a BS5 SMS which sounds fun, but you want to have a high powered gun with your commander and the benefit of the sMS, its ability to ignore LOS is worthless on a battlesuit as you will want to fire more than one gun. The XV89 slows you down which offsets the 2+ save, and is expensive. The XV84 with markerlight and target lock for 15pts is a bargain, you pay that much for the markerlight alone usually and not with BS5.

Tetra - very good
XV84 - very good
Drone Sentry Turrets - ok
rest - avoid.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Just a word of warning, there is a reason that PDF is no longer linked on their website, it is because those rules have been changed and replaced in the Imperial Armour Vol 3, 2nd edition.

The Tetra rules (the weapons they have, in particular) changed quite a bit from what is in that PDF.

But still a very good unit, IMHO. The very best way to get markerlights into your force by far.
