Was just wondering if anyone had some tips/strategies for playing as Tau in apoc. Facing S10 AP1 10" blasts that ignore cover are hard for Tau, as are Gargantuan Daemons with 3+ invuls, 7/8 wounds and T7-10. What's the best strategy for taking out such large things in these types of games? Thanks!

lost of riptides, forgeworld stuff, flyers, + apoc formations tend to help, don't play gun line, keep mobile and spreading out,

Tau unfortunately dont have any big crap capable of either surviving those attacks reliably or dishing the same kind of damage out. Apoc tau is literally formations and numbers. Riptides take a lot of damage in Apoc but aside from StrD they still take a fair amount of damage to kill (which is significantly better than literally the entire codex....as they all get splatted or Exploded! by being glanced at). The two FW variants are useful because they provide the Riptide durability while offering different roles. That Y'hrava or whatever it is (the FA one) seriously wrecks vehicles with a nova charged Pulse Cannon and that flamer is nothing to shake a stick at Since apoc is pretty much only friendly gaming (way too long for competitive imo) ive been trying to make my own rules for a GMC "Riptide" so i can field a giant battle suit. So far im liking it, strong but has obvious flaws. Unfortunately custom rules are iffy and generally frowned upon if you arent buddies with your opponents lol. Im hoping i can make the mode epic looking enough to peak people's interest in how it works lol

if you really want to play tau in apoc, consider taking a normal army and ask your opponent if you can make your suits 'without number'. otherwise I don't see tau doing much in such a setting.

I always have good fun running 20+ Tau Commanders with dual weapons, fnp, and an invul save. Then take the strategm of no scatter deep strike and you have 20+ 3+/4++/5+++ models with BS5 and 2x melta/plasma/missile exactly where you want them. The Damocles book has some great formations for Tau to use in Apoc as well.

Take a Manta and a few Tigershark AX-1s.
Strength D, 72" range rail guns are the bee's knees, and can drop anything they throw at you while still have ridiculous secondary systems.

Rule #1 is Look Cool.
Rule #2 is Do Cool S*%* Even If It's Tactically Inadvisable
Winning is something like Rule #17.

Overkill is officially defined by the Commissariat and the Munitorium as: "The minimum amount of force that is to be brought to bear against the enemies of the Emperor."

I seriously doubt the OP has more than $1500 laying around though...

Tigersharks are viable far as i can tell, though Barracudas are the one thats usually bought. I dont get why Tigersharks are a superheavy flier though.
Manta........even if it wasnt 1500USD why the heck would you ever bring that? I dont even like the rules lol it seems really easy to kill.
