been working on a buste to spend some more time working with a brush en practicing.
not really sure about the way he hair is going... so some C&C would be appreciated...
this is the second attempt at the blonde hair
toned down the yellow.... and darkened the beard.
nevermind the face... just put down a basic tone to have an idea of the contrast between hair and face.... this still needs a lot of work
this was the first attempt

Its way yellow. like cartoon yellow It might be because its too dark. Id go with a Lighter Brown in the shadows and mix a bit of white or ivory into the yellow. or the picture isnt doing it justice.

It's too yellow, as mentioned.
It's also too consistently the same dark-light transition. It looks like you are highlighting each strand without really describing the whole mass. The beard for instance would be darker closer to the face and then lighter further out as light starts to diffuse through it (unless you are going for wet hair, in which case it's all way too light/bright)
The whole thing is a bit too saturated. You could probably knock it back with some neutral/cool washes and then pull the highlights back out again but with a much more subdued palette.
Part of it is the sculpting. In reality people tend to have much more coarse beard hair than head hair, which would give his beard more volume than it has here where it's basically just more of the same kind of hair.

I've added some tan and white brown to the mix to do the highlights..... but after looking at it again it still looks to yellow...
I'll try starting out with tan basecoat and work my way up from there.

well.. now that you guys mentioned this I did have another look at it from that perspective.. and you're right... too yellow and needs to be toned down a lot....
Need to make the roots a lot darker...
and get more different shades on the head...

Army Painter's Desert Yellow is an excellent replacement for the (much missed) Bubonic Brown.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.” |
