Decided to return to the hobby after a couple of years out, used to frequent The Painted Dragon (That's now gone, apparently) and started the hobby back in... 2003? Major IG fan, Or Astra Militarum (What happened?) and I'm really wanting to learn how to paint urban DPM camo. Also like dwarves and Necromunda and Mordheim (Again, what happened?!) If someone can fill in the blanks for the years 2010-2015 around what happened in the hobby and why IG was renamed, that'd be swell! Anyway, that's me. Hi.

You think you got it bad, ive been away for 15 years what the bloody hells a Tau and where did they hide my Squats!
They are trying to rebrand a lot of things to be more definitively GWs IP, Imperial Guard a little generic and they have endless copyright issues

I don't understand the new paint colours.. or the new paint types! I just got my head around the base layers and washes they introduced a few years ago, now every name is different!
I also remember the twist off lids too. The hard glass like plastic and how the paint would ALWAYS dry in the cracks of the twisty bit and flake off. Then the new plastic flip top lids came out.
The Scions are pretty damn cool looking though, the Bullgryns too. Everything is so expensive now! Even at Wayland Games and that 25% discount.

*cough* vallejo paints *cough* They are as good as citadel paints cept cheaper and in better eye dropper style bottles.
Yeh the price has gotten insane (wait till you see Forge World stuff), you can save a lot of money if your willing to shop around on Ebay or gumtree. No amount of paint is immune to Dettol!, if your sly about it can find amazing deals.
The Scions do look fantastic, ill bitch about the price all day long but no one can ever deny the quality GW bring to bear. The plastic kits today blow my mind compared to the stuff we had when i was a kid.

No-one ever taught me how to properly use a palette or water down paint so I still just stick my brush in the pot... Well, more like gently dip it, less than 50% of the brush gets paint on it.
I can deal with spending a little more on models, I know VAT on GW stuff increased a little while ago, so it's not totally their fault, right?
You remember some of the Perry brothers moulds, way back? When Ultramarines were yellow trim and not gold? Outstanding

GWs response to shrinking sales has always been to hike the price, they have a stranglehold on the industry and they know it. Fans are fanatical and willing to pay anything and its only very recently any kind of real competition has existed at all.
I got my new SM army via Ebay, the one mini i bought new was a librarian and even with a discount that was £12. £12 for a 1" tall plastic toy soldier is a bitter pill to swallow no matter how much i love the company. I would buy new if i could tho, and may do down the line as painting once fully assembled is a pain.
I remember the old school Mk6 Corvus armor marines, god i miss beakies. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also this little tip just changed my world for painting, ill never go back...

Make a wet palette m8y and never worry bout thinning out paints ect, costs nothing.

Appreciated! Beakies have a serious Plague doctor feel about them. And now I feel like making a plague doctor themed SM force. Sort of anti-Nurgle style.. Hmm. Whose the WD editor nowadays? Last I remember it was... Idk, he had an IG force. Talaharian Regiment? It's been too long.

Sounds like a plan man , forge world do beakie marine squads at crazy forge world prices.
Ive got a mind to do Chaos orks!, read some fluff a while back bout an ork warbose deciding bound to be a good fight in the eye of terror and invaded the realm of Chaos. Khorne was super impressed and the orks fight for eternity in his world.
Long story short, Khorne bezerker orks ftw.

Crazy red orks with larger teeth and horns. bloodshot yellow eyes and all that good stuff.
It's a real shame there isn't a new Cadian kit with more options for armour variation, it's just like, "Oh, starship trooper armour or Vietnam bodybuilders, alright."
Elysian Drop Troops are the epitome of awesome, I'm actually confused why they arn't a proper, off the shelf plastic kit.

Looking at forgeworld stuff is a sure fire way to depress yourself, unless you happen to have an obscene amount of disposable income there is no point even thinking bout em.
Besides if your a stupidly rich IG fan willing to pay forge world prices then its gotta be Death Korps of Krieg surely?

Besides if your a stupidly rich IG fan willing to pay forge world prices then its gotta be Death Korps of Krieg surely? DKOK are definitely cool. No denying that and I guess these are a cheaper alternative to Elysians: http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/AFTERLIFE/Republic/Republic-Grenadiers It's just, with all the revamping of models when GW goes around and 'modernizes' them, why skip over the IG's bread and butter? A few crouched legs, some different head options, Idk, maybe the inclusion of SHOTGUNS in the kit so we can make Veterans in a more hasslefree way? Makes 0 sense to me. I am slightly peed off that paint is now £2.40 a pot. Vallejo might get more service from me. (Coat d'arms is good too...) Edit: The little highlights that reveal the explanation of an abbreviations (Like DKOK for Death Korps of Krieg) are awesome, Like that!

Its probably brainwashing as a child but despite the fact ill bitch and moan about GW pricing when im wargaming it just has to be GW minis (Forgeworld is GW, confuses me why they want 2x mini making companies but there you are). For no reason i could adequately explain it would bother me to use non GW minis.
I would feel the same way about any game tbh, if i ever give in and try out some of the interesting lookin competition out there (some great lil skirmish games around) id prolly be a bit funny bout using the correct minis to.
If you have the money ForgeWorld stuff is amazing, its even better than GWs regular very high standard and armies like Elysium or Death Korps look fantastic
