I've been painting up my necrons and I've been playing around with washes on the silver (typically after painting 1250 points) so certain things are stuck a certain way and I'm fairly certain I'll end up going with just the silver but here's 1 idea I had.

I tried green followed by a green glaze but I think it was too much green

EDIT: here's the green one

Cheers! I'm really torn on it. On the one hand it's a bit more exciting than plain silver but on the other there's going to be 60 warriors on the table so maybe too much purple?

I really like the purple, but the greens a bit too much.

I like the purple one a lot. For the green one, try and drybrush silver on top of the green wash and see if that helps.

how about you try just applying the purple wash to the shoulder pads and the face
and getting ur hands on some purple rods
each type of unit in my army has different colored shoulder pads,
i got bored painting them all silver
warriors are black immortals are purple, telsa is blue, lords are gold, destroyers are black again
cant recall the other colours atm, but they look pretty good
i'll show case my army after i finish off the wraiths and heavy destroyer

The green one is probably too much green, but accenting with the green would be sweet.

Name your overlord the Noble and Narcissistic Nemesor Nekemakh of the Neon Necron Nation.

J/k I'd love to see a complete army like this. You probably don't want a single hue on each model, though. Just one more color on those warriors would make them look better, probably.

I would try a very dull blue tinge to the silver. Think comic book metal. It has a lot of slight blue tones in it. The very slight blue would mesh well with the green without making your necrons pink. They will read as silver/metalic while popping on the table especially next to other necrons.

Hey, a tip: Try to do the glaze on the armour plates, and not the joints. It'll make them look more like they're metal tinted green/red, instead of the metal being that colour.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! So I've tried a few things out and let's see what you think. Used immortals here as I happened to have 5 primed I'm not using and I still have 10 left to probably turn into deathmarks or something but anyways here goes

Blue Glaze over the purple

And a little of both

Also didn't see your comment Mathew untill now but I'll bear it in mind for future

Nice pics.

What specifically were you using to do the purple, and how did you apply it?

It's just the Citadel Druchi Violet Shade. Applied with a standard brush as opposed to a wash brush for better control. It is two layers of the washes though.

I really love the blue on purple, thatsy vote. That or do the split and make a purple/green/gold Mardi Gras Necron army!

So I've added a poll as that seems to make some sense now that I have a few options. The blue over purple is quite interesting. As its drying it's really pearlescent but then it goes quite Matt once fully dry. I'll grab a better shot of that in daylight tomorrow to really show what it's like. It's definitly interesting though

Yeah, I think the purple wash with light drybrushing

OR

purple wash, mixed with glaze medium (super thin) and then applied only to armor

Either way dude, it looks fantastic

Cheers. I do quite like the dry brush over the top

Did some scarabs so from front to back its single wash of purple, double wash of purple, beside it is double purple and blue glaze and behind it is double purple and red glaze

Phone died so took this one with the tablet so apologies it's of lower quality

Silver paint, blue glaze, very light silver dry brush on top. Call it good.

What about keeping them silver, but using pigments to make them look rusty, like they're truly ancient?

I'm not really sold on the rusty look. I've always felt that whatever compound the necrons are made from they probably figured out how to make it not rust.

Some better shots in somewhat better light

Here the immortal has the blue glaze and the warrior doesn't

Thanks for the feedback so far. I did the warrior with the purple head and shoulders as that is the most voted for so far

I still think the blue/purple is the best. Especially in better lighting, the blue glaze over the purple gives it a really interesting look. The purple on the head and shoulders it okay, but just looks kind of odd.

Yeah it's the most unique one and its definitly a strong contender. Ive ruled out the green I'm pretty sure. So really it's just between plain silver, all purple or the pads and head purple. Its one of those things I won't know for sure until I paint up a few of them and see how it looks over a unit probably.
