Subject: How to deal with dark eldar and harlequins as SW?

Hello dakka. I have my first game of 7th edition on Monday. I am facing a dark eldar and harlequin force. And honestly have no clue what to expect. I have a large BA and a large SW army. I plan on facing plenty of venoms and raiders. Does anyone have any advice? It will be a 2000pt game. Thanks

Kill the vehicles and then go for the tasty morsels inside, they are both toughness 3 and Harlies only have a 5++ and only after turn 2 do Deldar ahve 5+ FnP, otherwise just 5+. Though deldar have a lot of poison, so get ready for that one.

Any good DE player will get rid of your longest ranged weapons first (so Las Cannons and co), then mobility, then most dangerous units in that order.
DE thrive on mobility, so you'll have to match that. Drop Pod Melta squads should easily destroy vehicles while flamers will murder infantry two-fold. TWC are as ever, a fantastic unit, even with poison piling wounds into you. Iron Priest with 4 Cyberwolves attached for ablative wounds should help you a bit there.
In regards to what to kill - do what your opponent is trying to do. Take out the long range weapons first (so Dark Lance Ravagers, Venom Splinter Cannons and such), then mobility (Raiders, leftover Venoms and Reavers). That will draw the opponent closer to you, which will quickly turn the battle in your favour.

Short ranged weapons like flamers are best, as the Harlequins can use their psykers to neutralize your long range shooting. Also, Harlequins tend to be a low model count army, so MSU marines could work well. Blood Angel Tacs and Assault Marines in combat squads with flamers and melta might be the way to go. SW and Death Company might be a trap because Harlies tend to have higher initiative and hit just as hard in combat. Plus, all low AP cc weapons are basically wasted on Harlies since they rely on invulns. Can't speak on the DEldar part of the force, though, as that is not my specialty, but I would assume that templates will be just as good against them with their open-topped stuff.

That's my problem. I typically run a drop pod heavy army with very little long ranged dakka. Twolves are almost an auto include. I know the deldar player brings haywire scourges also.

Well, then I think the game will come down to who can punch the other army first. If you can't cripple their forces on the drop, the DE will fly away from you and the Harlies will charge you. You'll probably want to pre-measure with the TWC because Harlequins have a deceptively large threat radius on foot (thanks to fleeted move-run-charge if they are using the Masque detachment). I would try to stay at least 20" away until the turn before you charge.

Are Harlequins a big threat to TWC? They seem like a bully unit, and TWC seems to have answers for their nastier tricks.

Well, fire power takes down the fragile DE or Harlie units very quickly.
Heavy bolters and bolters are your best bet.

Not sure what you're referring to. Storms Shields? T5? Both can be overcome if the Harlequins get the charge, but I agree that it will depend on the Harlequin loadout. Harlequin Kisses are inefficient and mostly wasted (except for the S6) against Storm Shields, as are Caresses. Embraces should do fine, but I doubt they will be a very common choice (at least until people figure out they are good). Volume of S6 is what the Harlequin player needs against TWC, but that also means the Harlies need to get the charge.
Yes, and as Wuestenfux said, bolters and heavy bolters are good choices against both armies due to T3 and AV10.
