Going to be using a drop pod for the first time, it'll have a dreadnought in it, and was just a bit confused about how it functions once it lands on the table. If you could confirm or correct any of the following:

1) Drop pod hits table, scatters, reduce scatter if it lands on something. Off table is a mishap.

2) Pop doors open. If the door doesn't have room, open it partially, don't open it at all, or shift the entire thing so all doors can open?

3) Models disembark. I assume this would be like disembarking from any other vehicle, you can be up to 6" away in any direction (measuring from the "body" of the pod, not the now open doors)?

4) Once the drop pod is on the table and open, are you free to fire through it (it doesn't have the harnesses, it carried a dreadnought)? If I have models huddled behind it (and partially obscured) can they use it for cover?

1. Correct.

2. Discuss with each opponent if door opening becomes problematic. Opinions vary wildly.

3. To clarify: the models move (in any direction) up to 6", so long as they end their move wholly within 6".

4. Yes and yes.

Bleah. "Opinions vary wildly" does not sound like fun. I think I'll just try my best to make sure they always land in the open

Also, as to cover, would it be a 5+? I'm debating between that or a 4.

Edit: Probably best to discuss the cover save with my opponent before I try and use it, as it is with all cover.

I've literally NEVER heard of anyone complaining about the doors. With that logic, a used pod with the doors glued shut wouldn't let my models disembark (or my land raider with doors glued shut, or rhinos etc etc).

Noone should care about that.

-edit-

It'd be a 5+ intervening unit cover save.

There is no actual need to open the doors (although if you don't, the weapon inside isn't going to be shooting at anything). If you do, most players ignore them for all game purposes, and some players treat them as invisible if you do leave them open.

It follows the normal LOS rules, like any other model. So yes to both questions. Cover save would be the same you get for being obscured by any other model.

Then pray that continues. Pages and pages of this forum have been filled with such debate.
As was said earlier, discuss with your opponent.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
