Because it removes the costs for having all that crap in the warehouse and on the shelves.
If your extensive fantasy range costs ... made up numbers ... 300K a year in global inventory/storage/logistic costs, but only makes 250K, it needs to go.
If your far smaller fantasy range costs ... again made up ... 100K a year in global inventory/storage/logistic costs, and falls to 200K in profits, it has a niche it can stay in.

I would like them to take the 40k apoc supplement, make it in the same format as the End times, Eldar, Chaos, Imperium, and Tau/necrons/tyranids(misc factions) and give them their own books advancing the plots of these races ever so slightly.
This would leave 7th edition alone, update apoc to 7th edition- let's be honest it's already out of date- give players rules to only the factions they want. This could allow for more race specific rules for apoc, create new characters, kill old ones, and give YOU the tools to make your own narrative apoc games just like the End times did.
Apoc is the most balanced way to play 40k, because it allows races to stay fluffy with their formations, and EVERY army becomes outright absurd. It's the best way to play, let's make it our "End Times" but instead of killing the galaxy use it be way it's already used to help narrate the GIANT battles, but flesh it out more? Yknow?

8th still exists, they are not going to send someone to everyone's house and burn your codex.

Indeed, 40k is alive and kicking.
No need for a change from a financial point of view.

I think most people are interested in 40k end times not because it needs a reboot but because of the thrill of finding out what happened next, who died, what cities where destroyed, what champions arose. It was a roller coaster all the way until it's anticlimactic end where everything just died and that was that.
I don't know why people immediately jump to saying "but 40k doesn't need to be rebooted it's doing fine!" Because it's not about that, it's about seeing what happens next. It's like watching a reality game show. Like Big Brother or Survivor, you watch to see who does what, who gets kicked off, and to see who eventually wins, but then it's just over and you're left thinking "now what?". Then season 2 starts. That's what's happening with Fantasy.

40K is a setting, not a story.
Want to kill off Marneus Calgar and have him replaced with a new UM Champion? Forge that narrative with your local group.
Want to have the AdMech develop the Ultimate Bug-Bomb that not only kills Tyranids on contact instantly, but also contains a meme-virus that infects and kills the Hive Mind? Forge that narrative with your local group.
Want Terra to fall to Abaddon the Despoiler's 13th (or 14th or 15th or 44th) Black Crusade? Forge that narrative with your local group.
However, deleting armies from the roster and resigning them to out-of-date editions of the game in 40K is a foolis endeavor.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |
