I've been looking at the Warlord ranges of 28mm Dark Ages miniatures, and I'm liking what I see. The minis have a lot of detail and the price is pretty solid (44 dudes for $32USD). Have you guys had any experiences with them?
Also, do you know what the contents of their Norman Infantry and Saxon Thegns are (i.e. # with axes, shields, spears, etc.)?

Hi, I did a commission paint job on the Vikings from Warlord Games.
I rate them fairly highly. About the same as Perry.
Nothing really negative to say about them at all really.
I don't recall the content of the Viking sprues, but I never had much of a problem working out what I wanted. I even made one figure two gunning it with two swords, so there is certainly options in there.

I have some of the Warlord Vikings and Saxons, and they are some of the better plastics out there.
I found a few problems in the joining of the arms on the chainmail armored figures (I do not like join-lines in plastic minis after they have been assembled, and the Warlord Plastics with Chainmail Armor were harder to eliminate the join-line than the Gripping Beast Dark Ages figures).
But otherwise, they are easy and quick to paint, and are priced very reasonably.

You what!?
*Looks*
Oh, you mean the Gripping Beast dark ages range.
In which case: I started a saxon army with viking mercs, using these. Then before too long I sold them with the intent of starting over with metal minis. The arms are some of the most ill-fitting parts I've seen in any minis, metal or plastic, leaving sizeable gaps and bare areas. In some cases you could see light through the hole left in the shoulder. The fact that most of the saxon bodies are almost squatting, and a lot of the arms are pointing long spears straight forward, means it's tricky enough to assemble and base them in a ranked unit; and I nearly tore my hair out trying to put the jigsaw back together after playing WAB. (Also when I decided that casualty removal had no place in a proper mass battle game)
Yep, they're cheap, and useful for army building, but the old chestnut 'you get what you pay for' applies. You'd need to be good at turning a blind eye to some things.

He could mean Warlord:

They have Normans, Saxons, and Vikings.
I think the Gripping Beast are better... But Warlord does do plastic Dark Ages (at least a few).
The Gripping Beast Arabs are trash, though. The sculpting of the cloth is tragic and the anatomy is poor.

I've bought from them often & never have any issues.
Don't know about overseas orders though.

The Saxons and Vikings are the Gripping Beast ones. See the logo in the top left of the pictures? (for that matter, see the pictures?) The Normans are from Conquest Games. Warlord's just stocking and reselling them all. Their only self-produced DA mini is that one with the bad pun for a name. (American audiences might better understand it if it was called Lamant Sanfordsson)
To be honest I'm at a loss to understand the GBP dark age minis bought from GBP being better than the GBP dark age minis bought from WG! If you have both, didn't you spot any similarities...?

I've never had any problems with Warlord's plastics- I think they're as good as Perry or GW.
But Warlord doesn't make any Dark Age kits. The Vikings are from Gripping Beast.

You are correct.
I was thinking of Wargames Factory.... I often get them confused with Warlord.

Sorry, my mistake. I was mis-remembering. The figures I painted were these ones:

I'm incredibly confused.
Warlord/GBP = bad
&
Wargames Factory = good?

Ok, I'm confused too.
I painted and was quite impressed with Gripping Beast Plastics (GBP) which are shown here: http://www.grippingbeast.com/product.php?ItemID=268441662.
If these are what you're talking about and calling Warlord, then I have nothing but praise for them. They are good quality figures. If they are not Warlord, then I have no opinion.
