I really am curious about where in the nine hells all these AKs that seem to be turning up in Europe are coming from. Any locals with more information?

Two men have been killed and up to 15 injured in a shooting in a restaurant in the south-western Swedish city of Gothenburg, police say.

They say automatic weapons - believed to be Kalashnikov assault rifles - were used in the attack late on Wednesday.

The men who died were between 20 and 25, police said.

Police spokeswoman Ulla Brehm was quoted as saying the shooting could have been gang-related.

One witness told Sweden's SVT broadcaster that two men entered the restaurant and opened fire.

"I didn't have a chance to think about what happened. Then I saw that my friend was bleeding. I tried to stop the bleeding as well as I could with my hand,'' said the witness, who did not give his name.

Another shooting took place in the same square in January, injuring one man
The attack happened as customers were watching a football game.

The gunmen are believed to have fled.

The police sealed off the area and launched a murder investigation.

On 30 January, a man was wounded in a shooting in the square outside the restaurant but it is not clear whether the shootings are linked.

Gun violence is not uncommon in Sweden's major cities, though shootings in public places with multiple victims are rare.

You got the AKs that are already floating around since the fall of the Iron Curtain. And I wouldn't be surprised if Russia lets some AKs float into the hands of "pro-russian rebels" who then turn around and use them as fund raisers.

Nope, and same tired excuses being trotted out too. These gangs only exist because of racism apparently. If the gangs were made up of ethnic Swedes they'd be blaming their criminality on their own lack of industry, not blaming society for excluding them. Gangs are made up of people who find that life easier than honest work. Of all the poorer people, only a small fraction ever join gangs, you always have to hold the individual responsible for their actions.

The Russians are supplying weapons to the rebels who then sell them for money so that they can buy...weapons?

People are selling guns for many reasons: money for drugs, money for food, money for prostitutes, money for seed to farm, a new net to fish with. And there are plenty of AKs in Eastern Europe that are flowing around for this reason. And more are entering the area due to current conflicts.

I saw a news article that was actually making a public announcement that people really have nothing to fear from gangs, because they never try to hurt innocents. When they attempt attacks like these, it's for a specific target, and they view it as amateurish that bystanders would get hurt.

I had to facepalm at that. 2 dead, 8 wounded.

AKs are really, really easy to find anywhere in the world as the Soviet Union used to hand them out like candy (and it became much worse after collapse of Soviet Union) and they are really cheap and easy to produce.

Most of Europe has rather strict laws, but there is always the black market. Just install Tor Browser, go to one of those marketplaces and buy all the weapons you want. An AK only costs a few hundred euros.
Of course, it is safer to just get them directly, if you have the right connections.
We had a large wave of this kind of assassinations in the Netherlands over the past months. But not one with so many bystanders injured.
