I just built a gaming table. I went 36" tall.

Is this an OK height?

can you and the guy your playing against see over the table and move your minis? if the answer is yes, it's fine, if the answer is no, it's not.

What ever a regular dinning room table is, seems fine to me. I say you did great.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

About two months ago I boosted my table from 32" to 39".

Everyone loves it!

Looks good. Better to be taller than shorter. No one wants to play on a coffee table.

I am envious of your carpentry skills.

My "gaming table" is a 6x4 sheet of plywood with 4 legs screwed into the bottom. Every time I lean onto it, I'm afraid it's gonna break in half because it bends slightly.

A new day, a new time zone.

I made mine 32" high, because it can also be expanded for apocalypse size 6x8, and that made for a comfortable height reaching across the table.

No one is going to comment on the insane view his gaming table has huge open windows looking out onto ??

Pretty nice view

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

I noticed it, but the outside world is scary and has stuff like snow and rain and hot summers and scarier stuff like the Day Star and aliens and fire.

So I usually prefer to remain on the inside of the safety barriers. : D

Some people call them walls.

It looks like it's as tall as the back of the chair or sofa behind the camera (as seen through the reflection). That's a good height, I'd say.

Are you going to put boards on the bottom so you can store terrain/models underneath? My local GW store has tables like that, and it's always convenient.

Yes, I'm planning on putting a support brace down the middle and laying a board across the bottom to put some basic storage shelves for terrain and what not.

Some very good craft right there. I think you did very well and the height looks good - there's nothing worse that sustaining lower back pain leaning over a low table (Warhammer World in Nottingham is a world of back pain).

Out of interest, what's the terrain mat from?

A standard table is somewhere around 30" tall, so if you like to have the option of sitting while playing you'll feel a little bit like a kid at the grownups table. However, if you buy bar stools or even captains chairs that'll take care of that problem.

Actually looks a lot like the table I built a while back. Might I suggest putting a sheet of 1/2" plywood on the bottom of you table where the supports are? it will add strength to the table and double as a convenient place to store stuff.

Otherwise, looks great!
