I never see anyone field raveners. Which is da to me because I think they look awesome as far as their models go.

What is the actual problem?

Are they over coated? Not survivable? Not killy enough? Am i just missing the lists where they are used?

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Umm, they're squishy assault units in an edition that favors tougher shooting units. Being 30 points per model with a 5+ armor save isn't that great. I'd rather take Warriors with the same upgrades, as they have a 4+ armor and are Synapse. Not as fast, obviously, but still.

Well...they are pricey, vulnerable to fire, and need Synapse. And because they are so dang fast, it's hard to keep them in Synapse. So you kind of have to build your strategy around them, so you can get full use.

In a lot of ways they are like Genestealers, but they are Fast, while Stealers are indipendent ...both are hard to get full value from.

Yeah Shrikes are just plain better, you just have to kit bash the models...lol

Raveners have a few subtle advantages over Shrikes (they are slightly faster; Shrikes cannot use their wings to both assault and charge for instance) but then Shrikes have advantages over Raveners too.

The most effective means of using Raveners seems to be the "turn 2 tsunami" list that a few players run successfully around here. Make no mistake, two or three large broods of Raveners crashing into your lines is devastating. They really must have the threat overload style of list to make it in though (or if they are focused down, the rest of your list needs to be able to carry the day).

They aren't a bad unit, but you cannot just drop them into any old list and get great results (unlike flying Hive Tyrants).

The main advantages that Shrikes have is Flesh Hooks, and they are Synapse. That makes them the natural Synapse source for Raveners. But it raises the issue of "why not just take more Shrikes?"

I've always thought, though never tested, that Raveners, and Lictors would make a powerfull pairing....
