one thing i have noticed on dakka dakka is the by comparison to other forums it has a large involvement of moderators, i have seen many threads including my own which have been locked when they get to a certain size and i myself find that a bit of a shame as the threads can generally still be developed on and not stray to far from the original idea set out buy the original poster. i was wondering what others thought on the matter and if you find it slightly annoying when your threads are closed, i know you can always start a new thread but using the same thread means you can carry on the theme and feel of the discussion.

p.s. this thread is not meant to undermine dakka dakka or its users in any way and just want to see what others feel on the matter, if the moderartor feels it is inapropriate than i would appreciate to discuss it and not just to lock it. it is also not meant o be just a moan but rather a platform to help people debate and talk about the matter.

thanks,

You've had exactly one thread locked and that was because you were breaking a Dakka rule.

The mods on Dakka are probably some of the best around, especially compared to most other wargaming forums. If they lock a thread, it's because it's become far too belligerent, strayed too far from its original topic, or is flagrantly breaking one or more of Dakka's clearly posted rules.

Love that pic, especially MajorTom in the background... although it really doesn't work like that

I also thought it might be worth posting a bit of an explanation on what you may be referring to clone, since I just checked the thread that I think you are (and it turns out that I was the one who locked it).

Several users had alerted that thread (which you can do by clicking on the yellow triangle in the corner of a post) as being about recasting. I also got several PMs from users after locking it that felt it was not about recasting at all. So, it was definitely borderline - you are more than welcome to discuss casting methods on Dakka, but if you start out referring to a specific mark of space marine armor, then it would be easy for another poster to interpret that as asking about recasting (and several did).

Just wanted to provide a bit of explanation as I think it was a borderline case, and perhaps not what you were intending at all, but since it could have been taken that way I decided it should be locked (and I clarified my lock message after a few PMs from users).

I hope that's clear and if not, please just PM me to discuss further!

i see the point being made, what i tried to get across was that i do appreciate the mods and they do a much better job than any other forum i have seen before it is just in my opinion i think that when a thread gets to a certain length sometimes they stray off topic but i have seen a few threads where it hasn't really gone off topic and has been locked and from what i saw it appeared it was locked just because it got to a large size. i am not trying to complain because without the work of the mods many discussions would not bare any resemblance to the original question/post.i think something that was misunderstood here, i never wanted it to be about recasting and more about how to convert legs or find custom made alternatives (which i have previously seen but wondered if anybody on g=dakka had made there own sci fi looking legs which if desired could be used to make some personalized space marines and not to make entirely new custom ones which i do not agree with). i did make a new thread with the same text but with a note about what i intended at the bottom and have started to discuss ideas, i hope no one took offence and that everyone realises that i do appreciate the mods and what they do. i do not mind if you lock it up now as i am aware what people and the mods think about the matter, i hope nobody took anything the wrong way. thank you

The new thread looks fine and since this seems to be answered, I'll lock it up at your request. Like I said, any questions, just PM me!
