Well, fellow Dakkites, I hope you've stocked up on blood vials and quicksilver bullets, because the hunt is on!

How's everyone enjoying the game so far? Getting used to the new healing mechanics, trick weapons and (almost) complete lack of shields?

And how about that coop? Should we have a Dakka password?

I'm enjoying watching it because I'd rather eat a broom then buy a PS4, does that count?

Well, there's always the PC version...

I would like to play this one soon but I got to get off my Mass Effect kick and play Dying Light first.

Also I played Demons Souls all the way through and about a quarter of Dark Souls prior to getting a PS4. I didn't get to finish Dark Souls because I wanted to play Shadow of Mordor first. I haven't even played Dark Souls 2 yet, so I am pretty far behind on these games. By the time I get through them, No Man's Sky will probably be out and I won't get a chance to play anything else... :(

It's in my laptop bag, but I won't get to play it till I get home. I am hopeful because I liked dark souls 1.

Had a ton of fun in character creation already, made a special looking fellow with a "Troubled Childhood" (i.e. molested by priests) whose name is now Hodor.

Amazing what some people have done with their looks though:

I have to say, the combat system in all DS inspired games always felt to me more time consuming than challenging. From watching Bloodborne, nothing seems to have changed in that regard.

I do however like the aesthetic. Probably because it feels very WFB like.

It doesn't feel time consuming, but then again I didn't feel that way about dark souls. One big difference is you have no more block. (In theory, you can parry with your gun, but I haven't got that to work.) Another difference is that I seem to be fighting a lot more enemies at a time. I seem to be aggro 4 enemies at a time with most fights. (Unless I do go slow and make sure to pull just 1 or two at a time, but with that there is still the risk of a group sneaking up on you.

I was stuck near the start for awhile till I finally broke through and killed a big guy with a hammer hand, but then lost about 4k souls to some kind of ratman thing?

Use Pebbles!

Seriously, have a stack of pebbles available at all times. They're perfect for luring an enemy out of a group.

I have used them, but I also have a fair amount of luck with my pistol or by just quick stepping. Fighting groups of enemies isn't always a big deal though. I have the thread cane and the whip setting is really good on groups

Progress wise, I have found the cleric beast form the previews and a second boss father something. I don't recall the name as they killed me rather quick. I finally found a second weapon. The saw cleaver thing.

I, for one, am having a BLAST with it. I'm at the part where the guy is trying to shoot you down from the top of the church (or whatever) and was actually smiling the first time he killed me.

Which weapons are you guys using? I picked the hunter's axe and have found its pretty good. I mostly use it in its secondary mode so as to have great reach. Only go with the short version plus gun against enemies that also have a long reach and just get inside their guard and go to town.

So, I've pretty much watched all of this game. (trust me, I would've played it if it was on PC). I like how they did a bit of a return to form.

BIG SPOILER FOR ONE OF THE ENDINGS.

Spoiler:
The fight with Gehrman seems to progress almost exactly like the one with Gwyn in Dark souls 1. Even the atmosphere and music feels the same. This is a good thing btw.

Does Bloodborne have a story? And I mean an ACTUAL story, not that pretentious "LOOK AT US WE HIDE THE STORY SO IT'S SUPER GUD" crap DS uses to pull off.

Father Gascoigne is stalling me. I can make it through the first two parts, but I get killed almost instantly on the last set.

Dark Souls 1 did it right. The second game was awful.

Oh I agree with that. DS2 was a lot worse in general.

Did you get the music box from his daughter? Once you roll like crazy up the stairs for a reprieve it should stun him long enough for you to throw some Molotovs and heavy attacks in. My issue is perfecting the rolls towards his attacks, gah!

Ayyyyyy. With DS1, it really felt like there was stuff to discover. In DS2, it felt really forced like they wanted to state "look how mysterious we can be!".

Yeah, the only thing DS2 improved was the PVP other then that DS1 was just more interesting and better all round for me.

What weapons do you guys prefer so far? I haven't gone too enough but the Kirkhammer seems too short in range IMO for my tastes, especially against bosses. Personally I started off with the axe and added the threaded cane later on to deal with the more agile foes. Plus sweeping with the axe in its extended mode looks too damn awesome when making people fly off.

I have the musicbox. I didn't try the molotovs though.

I've been looking forward to the Bloodborne release for a long time, I've poured hundreds of hours into the souls series and DS1 is possibly my favourite game of all time.

Now that I've played it for a couple of days I can safely say that I'm hooked again. I wasn't sure at first, but at some point during the Father Gascoigne fight the game suddenly "clicked" with me.

I'm trying to avoid any spoilers or guides during my first playthrough.

So far I'm loving my walking cane, pistol & top hat look!

The cane feels slightly OP in come cases because of the range. Like you can kind of cheat with it in the gascoigne fight. I kind of think the game gets a lot better after gascoigne. There is a problem with that fight in that your kind of bottled up in a small area before you beat him and that took a long time for me.

I found a odd area just tonight. It was a monster with a bag killed me and carried me somewhere. Kind of neat, but I am way to low a level for that place.

I wouldn't know if the cane was "OP" or not, it's the only weapon that I've used!

I've gone for skill instead of strength and I haven't found anything that scales as well as the cane yet.

Regarding the Gascoigne fight, I fought him on the stairs to avoid getting backed up against the gravestones. It was a case of dodge, dodge, attack burst, dodge, repeat until dead. I didn't even consider using the extended range version of the cane because Gazza seemed way too aggressive for cheese tactics.

It took me a quite a few attempts which is why it was so satisfying when I finally took him down!

I fought him in the gravestones so he would get hung up on them and I could safely beat him with the whip. This works until the last bit so that was a little tricky.

I've been using the hunter's axe. I like that you have the option to make it a long range weapon, or keep it in its base form and have slightly faster attacks. Its still a slow weapon, but I feel like I've been able to deal with that well, and the flexability It provides makes up for it.

I used the gravestones to my advantage. Perfect way to time him walking into my axe's power attacks. I made pretty quick work of him. The two bosses that follow, on the other hand...

Edit: I think you mean it's the Demon's Souls 2 that we all deserved!

Holy gak that is an awesome username. Please tell me your army is called Kabal of the Fragile Breath. Morathi's Darkest Sin has some competition here for best handle, I think.
