Hey guys, not sure if this has been asked or resolved before, but came up in a game before and must admit never actually encountered this -

Valkyrie got Stunned, and so therefore can't pivot and has to move 18".
Flyers can pass over models that can physically fit under them, but must still remain at least 1" away from enemy models.
The Valkyrie's turn, moving 18" in the same direction as it was currently facing, would have made it end its movement within 1" of a unit of SM Bikes.
If a flyer ever has to voluntarily move under 18", it becomes Wrecked.

Now, RAW yes, technically the Valkyrie should have been removed, as it would of had to of stopped 1" before the bikes, therefore moving less than 18". The wording is very specific "must move 18" - so no more, no less.
However having never seen this scenario before, it was rolled for as it didn't seem to make much sense (admittedly its RAI, but we couldn't fathom how being close to a bike would cause a plane to just nose dive).
As it was, the Valkyrie was removed anyways, so kind of a shaggy dog story I guess, but as I said earlier, I had never been in this situation before, and just wondering some thoughts on the subject.

If this is truly how its meant to be played, then I've got a new way of dealing with FLyers

Further from this, say a Flyer was Stunned and so had to pass over something like a Drop Pod (which it cannot physically move over). Again would this involve it being wrecked?

Thoughts and thanks

Yes, this is correct.

You dont move models by dragging them along the table surface - or rather, there is no requirement on you to do so. You can simply "hop" the model up and over any intervening terrain, as it ignores them.

This is flyers rules, it should crash and burn, as it could not move 18".

I saw some games where one guy (he played Nids IIRC) placed his models in a way no enemy dlyer can move correctly and they all crashed and burned.

This is one of weak points of current flyer rules.

Dark Angels ~ 7350pts (about 5800 painted);
Ultramarines ~ 4700pts (about 2700 painted);
Imperial Knights ~ 1300pts (about 800 painted);
Skitarii and Mechanicum ~ 2000pts (about 1800 painted);
Assassins ~ 850pts;
Tyranids ~ 2000pts

That is indeed the most common interpretation: It cannot move 18" straight as it would be over enemy models and therefore crashes.

However, i would like to point out two pieces of information from the rulebook:
A Zooming Flyer can move over intervening units and impassable terrain exactly as a Skimmer.

If a Skimmer is forced to end its move over friendly or enemy models, move the Skimmer the minimum distance so that no models are left underneath it.

So the Zooming Flyer moves over other models like a skimmer, which, if forced to end its move over enemy models, is moved the minimum distance.

Resulting in the Locked Velocity Flyer to simply be placed the minimum distance next to the enemy. If this is then counted towards the 18" minimum (which he was forced to do, and did) or if you have to then re-measure, is not stated.

I try to do this with the ork traktor cannons. My brother plays blood angel and took 3 storm ravens. After a game where I stunned one and had models in the way and he crash and burned, he always takes extra armour now.
