I gave up WHFB in 7th edition and 40k in 6th. Was looking to possibly get back into Fantasy depending on how 9th drops, but in the meantime I am playing Force on Force and Tomorrow's War, and having a blast with them.

I assumed that rumors of WHFB's being cancelled were bull, and so bought a little less than a ton of WoC. I figured it would be fun entering the hobby from a new beginning.

If I feel like playing WHFB I'll just play 8th edition. For now I will just focus on 40k and see what this new version of war hammer will turn out to be. I'm not to happy that I will be losing another army. First I lost my Dogs of War army and now my Bretonnians, hope they don't cancel Orcs and Goblins in this new edition.

I slowly switched to Malifaux some time ago, started up Infinity after that aswell. So that's what I'll be continueing with. Tried warmahordes but the looks of most of the range just puts me off completely.

I already play a good variety of other games occasionally such as Infinity, Malifaux, X-wing and Dropzone commander.

I won't stop playing Warhammer at 9th edition per se, we'll just carry on with 8th as it is.

The current crop of AoS rumours don't have us overly enthused given we really enjoy 8th for what it is, especially as it's the only large scale regimental game we play. Never deny that it's not perfect but we're happy at where we're at with it.

Not interested in KoW but as a new system using different minis I may give Flames of War or Bolt Action a go for some WW2 flavoured battling!

Well, so far DZC has been keeping me busy as of late with the gaming group and we have more or less shelved Fantasy for now given the tumultuous silence from GW on the new direction. I am willing to give 9th a shot, but if its just an abominable mess then I am not sure. We could stick with 8th edition but some of my friends like one who plays Brets don't have too high hopes on that so far. I tried demoing KoW with them last year, but they seem to be somewhat 'meh' about it, and I am not sure if the new edition will have any effect on them yet.

I've already quit 8th and moved on to Warmachine and Bolt Action. 9th edition isn't going to really bring me back from what's been revealed so far.

Something clearly happened over the years with this gotta have the newest rules slowed mentality when it comes to GW. Part of that I think may have to do with them releasing rules updates far more quickly than in their glory days and even into the late 90s and early 2000s.

I believe part of this mentality is contributed by the players themselves and how GW has been really releasing some armybook/codex creep situations the last few editions. There is also the fact over the years that there is far more of a push and mindset toward the tournament competitive lists, so there is a general feeling that having the newest and shinniest is the best thing ever, and since everyone is doing it everyone else believes they have to do it too.

8th edition is very solid and has good balance, it's not perfect but I feel that outside of mega hardcore comp play that it's a solid functioning rules system that will live on for years as a viable way to play FB, in fact I've heard many of the 3rd ed oldhammer guys have been switching to 8th as the new oldhammer. Anyway I will be sticking with 8th edition and have more than enough minis and armies to keep me busy for the next 20 years when it comes to painting, playing, and enjoying the old world and warhammer as it always was. I also believe many vets will do the same and have already decided that even before 8th came out.

This time GW vets are faced with a bit of a problem, as we do not know exactly what will happen with the ebay market and pre bubble hammer minis, let me explain...

We know that many will no doubt sell their armies, but we also know looking at SG products and oop GW things in general what often happens, many of them skyrocket or hit obscene prices, some of the later LOTR sculpts for example fetch 70-150 dollars, I know because I sold some myself to fund my own 8th armies since I had way too much lotr and duplicates on hand that I would never use or need. Yes many will be cheap but I would say many of those will be poorly painted and or pre built/undercoated, for those of us modelers who like to do a decent job...mold lines and poor painting can pose serious issues with second hand. Let us keep in mind that many of the newer sculpts are plastic only and when those sprues or boxes sell out that is it outside of hoarders who may list some years later for stupid money.

True we can use other companies models in our own houses and chances are GW would never allow 8th to be played in their official stores either, but for those of us who may later on say oh I would like another 1k points onto my 2k army that can create some big wallet holes and even wait times with what is available. We already know this looking at virtually most of the SG oop on ebay now and yes it will happen with FB too in cases of mint or nib. Metal has also gone up because of failcrap, even a thickly painted hunk of gak on ebay once stripped is better quality than fc but that is another matter.

Of course age of gak will sell, because of 40k players but will it sell how they want it to I actually am unsure about how this will all play out. Some will just bend over and accept it many others will not and GW really did fk over many vets and dedicated spenders with this move.

I already have other games that keep me happy.

If AoS sucks, I'll just wait for some clever Swedes to balance it.

Failing that, I'll push my group to start Kings of War.

While still trying get Infinity going.

Playing: Droids (Legion), Starks (ASOIAF), BB2
Working on: Starks (ASOIAF), Twilight Kin (KoW). Droids (Legion)

I've got plans moving to make a medium-ish sized AoS force, to give the game a fair try ... but using non-GW minis I want to paint anyway and based in such a way that they can be used in other systems

I'll definitely give 9th/AoS a shot, but as of right now I am planning on getting into Bolt Action. Starting off with the D-Day starter set, may move onto to getting a Soviet army if I can find enough people to play with in the local area.

Kings of war & Malifaux. I hadn't really looked outside of GW until all of the uncertainty caused by the 9th rumours. Glad I did now, liking both games for very different reasons.

Honestly, I don't know if I have the energy anymore to keep at the hobby. I've tried playing other games out there and its just too difficult to arrange games with almost non existent player bases, 40k has turned into a complete mess and really turned me off from playing it. I was really hoping fantasy would get a compelling reboot with a streamlined and elegant rule system that feels like a truly modern game but that doesn't seem to be happening so ill likely pack in the remaining miniatures and rules I have put them in the garage and maybe ill pull them back out once my kid is old enough to play a game with me.

For those of you still looking for block-style fantasy games, 1 Page Fantasy is always an option. They're simplified rules (but not AoS, poorly thought out simplified), but every army is represented with its own unique army list and magic.

Presupposing that I don't like AoS ...

'll stick to 8th if I can.

If not, there's no shortage of other games out there. WHFB isn't my only game at present (I've usually got 2 systems going at a time). I'll probably bring my Firestorm armada out of retirement and play that instead.

I only have one WHFB army. High Elves. It cost me less than $200 all up (for about 3500pts worth) and I'm not opposed to it just sitting on a shelf in the cupboard of shame if I don't like the direction the game takes. They can be my "elfs on the shelf" for a while. I stopped playing WHFB for 17 years previously. I can do it again.

I did the same for 40k - even though I had 4 armies for it (sold off/disposed of two of them) but there ARE other SF miniatures rules that I can use those with, anyway.

I've got options:

I'll likely keep playing 8th until it slowly fades away.

I have a ton of Malifaux stuff but the game just no longer interests me. I absolutely fething hate the "edgy" art style that looks like I'm backstage at an MSI concert with special guest lincoln park. That and the current system of "Upgrades Upgrades everywhere" means I not only need to know what a bunch of models do but I now need to keep track of all the updates. I loved, LOVED first edition and still am a Henchman, but I can count the number of M2E games I've played and I can count the number I've enjoyed on one hand.

I've got a small bit of X wing but it suffers from the upgrades everywhere syndrome I'm not a huge fan of. I may give it a bigger try

I like starwars Armada, I just don't like the price point.

It's looking strongly that WM/H will take over. My area has a rather large group. I've played for a while on & off and it ticks the "Movement & positioning are key" boxes that I like. Not to mention the game is growing in popularity with TONS of new players. It seems we get another 1 or 2 every week.

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

Stopped playing halfway through 8th when it became abundantly clear that GW wanted to pretend my faction (Brets) didn't exist. The end times thing where our special characters were literally killed off to provide character development for others was the final straw.

Gone to Dystopian Wars, X Wing and Warmachine.

Switched to Kings of War in 2012 and haven't looked back. 1st edition was great, and the playtests I've done of 2nd edition made a fantastic game even better.

KoW2 goes to print on Friday according to their facebook page, so the books will be ready in 4 weeks.

Maybe it's just because I'm old but Kings of War seems like a rehash of an early version of WHFB - great from a nostalgia standpoint, but a throwback to the days of 45 minute turns waiting for your opponent. Still better than Sigmar from what we've seen and the community seems TERRIFIC so if you liked earlier versions of WHFB it may be perfect for you. They also have fan created stats for all the major WHFB armies so you can use most of your current stuff.

On the other hand I personally REALLY like the Wrath of Kings rules, although I haven't played enough to know how well it's balanced. It doesn't support block infantry (you can do group activations, but less than 10 models at a time) or massive battles, but it plays very fast, it's alternating activations so you're never sitting around, and the very clever combat mechanics feel innovative rather than 30 years old.

I had a long break from GW games because I didn't like the prices for armies - played WarmaHordes, X-Wing, WarZone Resurrection, even picked up a few starters of Dystopian Legions and Dystopian Wars and so far I must say the games that have the most quality to them and most polished, competitive friendly and balanced gameplay are Warmachine/Hordes and X-Wing. Currently hoping that Star Wars Armada will take off nicely once FFG finally ships the first wave to all the countries.

That being said, I think I will be interested in Age of Sigmar because I have a couple minis for various WFB armies that I could field as a skirmish force. My main gripe was that I had to pay thousands of my currency (or hundreds of $) to get a complete army, not counting the books and other required stuff.

On the other hand every skirmish game I played granted me 2-3 armies for the same price along with some accessories and I thought I was getting more bang for the buck.

Don't get me wrong, though, I am not a cheap bastard and I wasn't only driven by the price - I just felt that I got more for what I paid. I mean... I've already spent about 400$ on X-Wing miniatures, being able to field almost every list for both main factions and about two different lists for Scums and for Warmachine I have Khador, Menoth, Trollbloods, Skorne and the biggest one is Cygnar.

So, yeah, I love spending money, but I hate being forced to spend too much money to just be able to play (and the only playable bracket other than ETC 2400 is 1200 points for pair games), so I took a break, but, as I said, am interested in skirmish rules, they might be very nice for more fluff-based playing and allows for cooler scenery pieces than huge infantry blobs that move like boxes.

The Swedes really aren't all that clever. Their comp systems suck ass. They really just make it different by inverting the power structure. They don't fix the game by any metric.
