Subject: what ork heavy support is your go to?

So lately i have been thinking about all kinds of crazy builds that i then realise are illegal because of that damn heavy slot being so packed. Most of my lists above 1500 points involve at least 2 battlewagons for my tank bustas as they cant be DT unlike meganobz which i would rather run in a gun wagon as it is cheaper. so what i am asking is, what is your go to heavy with orks?
Normally I go with forge world gun wagons and battlewagons but the DT never seem to match up with the units i want and so the heavy slot becomes packed.

To me, 15 lootas are an auto in every list as there's not many lists which don't work better without them. Typically backed up by a HQ choice or Mini Mek.
Yes they are fragile, but they do put out power and you only need 1 of these units to be successful.
The typical rule for transports isn't to just have the 1. So battlewagons are a struggle for me, because I do like 2, but I also like KMK and Lobbas. That means if I want 2 battlewagons, then I have to take either Nobs or Flashgits, both of which I'm really not a fan of.
I see no reason to take Kanz or DDreads these days. There's too much which outclass them unless your taking the big formation, but that's not the topic on hand.
Flash Gits and Other (Looted Wagon) are, like the Kanz, completely outclassed by other units. Both have rubbish defences for their points. Fun for fluff, sure, but not practical.

30 Orks by Foot.
17-20 in a Battlewagon.
12 in a Trukk.
I want offical rules for the Super-Ork that the Mad Dok is working on... |

i like the loota idea with a mega armour warboss with lucky stick giving them slow and purposeful AND can tank a lot of hits.
yes, i love KMK as well. exactly, i feel like more things should have a battlewagon as DT because of the crowded heavy slot.
i agree that the smaller ork walkers arent really worth it any more. having said that i did her smashed by an all walker list (the formation) at 1500 points haha

You can take the BW's as DT's for the meganob, stick them into HS gunwagons and put your busta's in the battlewagons?
Or run 2 CAD's. At 1500 doesn't seem much of a stretch to have 4 troops and 2 HQ's.
But OT;
Currently really enjoying gunwagons, utilising squadron rules to have 3 for 1 HS slot, then load the front with shoota boy chaff - Scoring objectives, meat shield for MM and charges. Then load the back two with busta's and gitz. Although im potentially now thinking both busta's. great platform that unloads so many rokkits, without the price tag of BW's and with the protection of squadron rules.
|
Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

this could work although DT have to start the game with their purchased units. so for the first turn the manz would be in the wrong vehicle :/

My hs is filled with mek guns of all sorts. They're really great as a backline for my footslogging horde.
I'd really love to run ork walkers but i hate seeing how useless they are due to lack of speed and survivability. Got to spam them to make them semi-fine. Can't afford it. Sad ork

Yeah 2 CADs is a really viable option.
For the record, I would have LOVED it if GW made it so that all the Mek Guns could be mounted on the Battlewagons. Sure they'd loose their re-rolls but a BW with KMK rolling around the field seems both Orky and legitimately sensible. Why WOULDN'T an ork do that?

This isn't entirely correct, you can leave them disembarked and then embark them turn one. Kinda risky but it's an option.
I'm also pretty sure you can run Gunwagons in squadrons so you can have multiple transports for one slot.
In response to question, I like Lootas. I like Mek Gunz but alas, Kap'n Zhardsnark does not :(
EDIT: You could also use the Blitz Brigade formation? 5 Scouting Battlewagons to open up slots?

yes, i am using the squads in 2s at the moment. I had thought about the 5 wagon formation but it never really appealed :/ I think i might try having 2X3 gun wagons with shootas, tank bustas and manz in them and then have big gunz with KMKs in them as my third slot. then run some bikes with a big mek with KFF behind them with a painboy perhaps? or instead of pain boy i could take another big mek with SAG and put him in a unit of 20 grots for protection and have him shoot stuff up?

Sounds solid, that's something im moving towards myself; 2x 3 - gunwagon squadrons. 6 Av13 vehicles for 360 pts with no upgrades, yes please! you also force them to shoot the shoota boy ones first which is hilarious. Personally I found the KFF a little lacking in my last two games. On a bike it is handy but I never found the 5+ worth it, as your already AV13 so I was only rolling it on a few glance/pens anyway, and then i'd usually fail it anyway Personally if your going bikes, perhaps zhandasnark? makes bikes troops and can scout. perhaps; Zhandasnark 2x bike units 2x 3 gunwagons shoota boyz MANz Busta's That would be a pretty cool army core. You could grab a big mek on bike, stick him with the second bike unit, give him da finkin' cap roll for infiltrate, then you could infiltrate D3 units + the warlords unit. Outflanking gunwagon squadrons? oh that would be so funny or just infiltrate them and have 6 AV13 vehicles sat midboard from the offset, while zhanasnark scouts and the big mek with a KS outflanks. I had a bigmek outflank Friday with 3 deffcoptas and a painboy, came on the board and wrecked havoc, he had 3-4 taurax and after a couple turns they'd made short work of em. EDIT: does Zhandsnark have to be warlord?

For Biker Troops yeah, but I'm the one who wants Zhardsnark, not sure about Tiny_Titan that does sound like a pretty cool core though..

Yeh I just stole your Zhardsnark Frozo Thought as he's running quite elite heavy, dropping the mandatory troops for bikes could be great fun A boyless ork army?! wtf?! Might have to see if I can give it a go sometime Need to finish up a couple bikes.

Can someone tell me where to find the gun wagon stats? I heard they were in the IA: 8 errata, which is free from forgeworld, but I can't find it. What is their actual name?

They aren't in the dred mob PDF update, they are only in the IA:8 actual book. They are after the gun complilation where it starts going through various fluffy vehicle descriptions, look for the Battlewagon and big trakk section. It is bizarre they have a stats page but aren't in the actual IA:8 list building bit But then there are a few vehicles that didn't get put in there such as the battle fortresses. Pretty sure you can get hold of IA:8 reasonably easy *cough*.

Up until recently, Lootas and Mek Guns were an auto include for me. However, I have only recently started using a BW, and filled with Tankbustas, it's just made my life more difficult.

Where are the stats for the Gun Wagons? I keep hearing about them!! Ahh. These are Looted Wagons with guns on them, right?
Even just a rough description of what they do would be great. The internet has been failing me.
Edit: I know they are in the 8th FW book, but alas I don't imagine myself buying the book for something I might take xD

Flashgitz with 10 ammo runts. 30 shots at bs3 s5 AP d6 with a reroll when you roll good AP in a BW is great. The only down side is I rarely get to see my beautiful Flashgitz models as my opponents target things most orc players use first, namely mega nobs and bikers. Which is fine.
Second is generally Kustom mega kannons. I foot walk my Tankbustas or bw them as my 3rd heavy slot.
My other 2-3 bws are dts. 2 for mega nobs, 1 for fgs.

The gitfinda only provides BS3 if they remain stationary, and if the vehicle moves then they count as having moved. I thought the general view was that in reality the gitfinda was a worthless upgrade, as with a 24" range most of the time you'll be moving to get the shot you want. I do enjoy flash gitz however, been taking them most games past few weeks. Haven't been taking ammo runts, but maybe I should, just for the turn where I do want those hits to really count.
