Is there a difference between a CCW and a Chainsword in the game?

There are more chainswords in the game, but they make the same amount of mess in the end.
Rules-wise, no difference. a chainsword is just a ccw.

Thanks. Seems like the way GW goes on about chainswords they should give at least a little buff, but oh well.

Alot of people want them to be a bit different (like have an AP value or a special rule such as rending), myself included.

Yes. They had a set strength value, save modifier, and 'parry' - which actually made them more useful to orks and guardsmen than to marines (who didn't need the strength and could get the save modifier by using their bolt pistol in close combat).

Ok, so on Sisters of Battle Seraphim squads, the Seraphim Superior can replace one of her Bolt Pistols with a chainsword. Does this just mean that she would get the bonus attack for 2 CCWs either way, but loose out on some shooting, making it a pointless upgrade?

That's purely to not make you chop off the metal chainsword arm.
