You know Judge Dredd, the character who inspired the Arbites? This is the 2012 movie. The good one. The one so good I have never brought it up without somebody piping up to agree how great it is.

Watch it.

I've got the DVD sitting next to my monitor right now, but I am aware that some Dreddless souls might not be so lucky, so I thought I better offer them this opportunity to change things.

Yeah, real nice kiwi actor playing Dredd, he did a way better job than Stallone.

Recently re-watched Dredd and thoroughly enjoyed it, I remember being really surprised it was good when I went to go see it in theaters, even my girlfriend liked it and she's not one for violent movies much.

We're watching you... scum.

One of my favorite action movies! it's really bloody good and very entertaining although I always imagine the scene with the Rotor cannon being a Punisher tank firing :-)

Dredd is a very fun character, and I remember that movie as surprisingly good. So yeah, watch it if you can!

Got the Blu-ray on my shelf right here, I'd recommend anyone who hasn't seen it to go and watch it; you won't be disappointed.

Got it ripped on my HD. I can watch it whenever I want to - in surround sound (not 3d, though. Not because that form of 3d annoys me, but because it DOESN'T need it.).

Watched it a couple of days ago.

I didn't think the Stallone one was that bad, apart from Rob Schneider who is obviously appalling in anything. Generally great cast, and tried hard to entertain both people who had read the comics and those who had never heard of it.

But yes, the Urban one is much better.

Real countries already have it on Netflix.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

No thanks, I have my Blu-rays.

Besides, Netflix (or one of the other main streaming sites) doesn't make most of the big US TV titles available in the UK.

Or in the US actually. Dredd's not considered a big US title as it bombed.

I'm sure that trying to sell it as "Dredd 3D" didn't help. Nintendo seems to manage it with games like Super Metroid and Super Mario 64, but adding "3D" to the title of your movie isn't really a sign of quality.

I think the Stallone version captured the visuals and setting better. The newer movie was actually a better flick overall with plot and acting and little stuff like that.

I liked them both, and anyone who is into 40k should probably see both of them.

In the box office, it wasn't an utter bomb. It didn't break even, but it wasn't far off. On home media it was a huge hit though. Dredd over all made a fair bit of money.

It's a real shame that they can't get backing for a sequel. Given the cult hit that it has become, it would likely do very well.

I liked the movie quite a bit, but I can't see a sequel with those numbers, even counting home video sales. It's Serenity-itis.

I liked the 'grand plan' they were talking about, with the films spun into a trilogy, capped with the Dark Judges.

That would have been awesome.

Another movie for Australians: Death Race is on 7Mate at 9:45 PM. Unfortunately this one seems to be West Australia only, but it's worth watching if you don't mind a bit of blood and violence.

If you haven't seen it, here's the Cliff's Notes version: A maximum security prison makes money on the side by letting the prisoners race for their freedom in armed and armoured cars and selling the results on Pay per View. An ex-racecar driver is framed for the murder of his wife and ends up in this prison, and is offered the chance to race for a pardon.

Seems similar to Death Race 2000, but where they would have tried to make the story somehow realistic and less immoral . Weird.
