Lesser Daemon of Chaos

I was curious if anyone has ran a Khorne Lord of Skulls, and if they are worth the points/$$$. I've got my eye on a used model at my LGS, but am hesitant to drop the money on it if I'll just be disappointed.
If Lord of Skulls aren't great, is there any alternative for big, meaty heavies to throw around a CSM army?

Chaos Warhound Titan is your best bet IMO, though more expensive $ wise

Oh man, I would love a Warhound. But you're right, they seem to be rather pricey. Looking at FW, it would probably run me $500 USD before shipping. Ouch.
I've been rolling with an Iron Warriors-esque themed force for awhile, but want some big war engines to round out the force. I'm almost leaning towards a Knight, but seems like alot of people cry "cheese " when they see one.

Best superheavy in terms of points efficiency is the Typhon.
Brass scorpion is the most fun i would say. It certainly trumps the lord of skulls.
The Warhound does seem sound, but hard to fit in games.

Wow, I had never really heard of the Typhon until now, that thing looks sick. Like a vindicator on steroids merged with a land raider... I want.

As said above. Typhon has to be most efficient at 370pts with ceremite. 7" st10 ap1 ignores cover primary weapon is insane, as is +1 on the thunderblitz, plus av14 all round with 6hp and immunity to melta is crazy durable - just watch out for haywire.
I've used my scorpion twice now and it was insanely good. In one battle it took out most of a Sanguinary Guard unit, a wave serpent, a large chunk of fire dragons, some guardians, a foot seer council and a dire avengers squad and was left with 2hp at the battles end. It also absorbed an insane amount of firepower.

Lord of skulls are not worth their points most of the time. They get easily tarpited.
Are they fun though? Yes, I really think so. The Skullhurler gun which makes you re-roll failed saving throws is kind of funny.

I'm going to convert a Chaos Typhon out of an LR and Vindicator. Seriously, with all those Ravenwing Command Squads, Centurions and Wolfstars plaguing my local meta this thing seems to be tailor-made to solve my issues. I think that with a Chaos Typhon in my army I may bring CSM to tournaments again and not hand wins to my enemies like crazy.
7" S10 AP 1 Ignores Cover blast on a AV 14 6 HP superheavy platform with Armoured Ceramite for good measure. You've got a deathstar? Not for long, mate.

The Typhon is a beast.
Plus if you are planning on running an iron warriors list, Perty was the one who designed the Typhon too.

Don't forget that it scatters, with BS4 up to 8 inch, so you have a significant chance to not hit your target at all (yep, S10 AP1, PW, Ignore cover is awesome if it hits).

Then suddenly invisibility happens.
It kinda kills the use of it when people do that :/

Fortunately, in my local meta Invisibility is nerfed to "To Hit rolls against a unit with Invisibility are resolved at BS 1/ WS 1". Bad scatters are likely to happen but I can actually fire at the unit.

Bs2 with tl means a 5/9 chance of hitting an invis target.
Very clear ruling. Snapshots are bs2 NOT bs1 for these. Invis means snap shots. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ignore - thought I was in skitarii thread. Stupid budwiser.

Average roll for scatter is 7in, with BS 4 and a 7 inch blast you will still hit whatever was underneath.

Pretty much. And when I speak of Biker units or Centurions the targets are numerous and sizeable. It'd rather difficult not to hit anything.
Also, the Typhon doesn't need to kill them in 1 turn. 2-3 turns is realistic and with SH movement (+ the rest of my army screening the big boy) I can keep away from many potential threats.

I use lord of skulls when playing 2k+ games against a waac nut in our gaming group. He uses necrons and tyranids, both of which have several weaknesses against the lord of skulls.
However, that's about as useful as it gets as most other armies easily down or simply endure this behemoth before he can earn his points cost back.
Haven't tried any other super heavies for CSM as we refuse FW in our group.
