I need some help guys, I used to use Photobucket but it has become so slow that I can not stand it anymore, what service do you use? I was using Flickr for a little bit but I can't figure out how to embed a photo in my forum post, I am only able to get a link and that is just annoying to me. So, let me know what you use and how you like it. Thank you in advance for any and all help you can give me.

You can't fix stupid, but you sure as hell can kill it.

I use flickr, I've had no probs getting a bbcode link for forums. Look for the 'share' icon and browse it's options.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

I'll give it a try.

I just use the dakka gallery, is there any reason not to?

I just use the dakka gallery. The only issue it has is you can’t post non-wargamig pics there. But those, I’m generally just sharing with friends and family on facebook anyway.

One way to go is hosting through dropbox. I use this quite a lot and since I have the files locally aswell as in the cloud they are very easy to work with. Then just use the "public link" and use it a a regular hosted photo. You also have ample space this way.

My issue I am having with Flickr is that when I create a post with a photo instead of the photo being viewable within the post all I am getting is a link that you guys can click on to see the picture, that is not what I want, I want to have my photo right there in the post like it was when I used photobucket, I think it is called a direct link or something like that, is the dropbox method similar? And my only means of taking pictures of my work is with my iPhone, can I upload the pictures I take to dropbox and then work with them from there or do I need to link my phone to my computer and go that route?

Dropbox is mainly for keeping a cloud enabled sync of a shared folder (and subfolders) so the "upload" is simply putting it in the dropbox folder and within the public folder of that (or a subfolder thereof). The sync is automatic from there.

You can then right click on a picture (or file) and select "copy public link". It usually looks something like this: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1861145/hobby/2013-11-16-20.12.58_1.jpg

Then I just put it in a Image tag here on the forum and get this:

I have not noticed any restrictions in traffic or anything like that. Have used this to host forum avatars and photos for many years. Also occasionally files I need to share with a friend for a single download.

So I can just create a dropbox account, get the app on my phone, link them and then send what photos I want to the dropbox and go from there?

Should be able too... a phone don't sync the same way as a computer does though. But uploading to dropbox from the phone is easy... on Android it appears as a choice in the "share to" dialogues, on iPhone I don't know.

If you're willing to link the phone to a PC, google picassa isnt a bad photo hosting site. Its free, linked to your gmail account, has a decent size for storage and can direct link into forums such as a dakka.

https://picasa.google.com

But as mentioned if they're warggaming pics why not just use the dakka site?

Currently attaching thumb-screws to myself because I plain forgot: Dakka's software is a bit funny about photo links from certain hosting sites, including flickr. I guess dropbox is fine, tho...

Dakka's software has no issues, however, with photo links from the Dakka Gallery

It's free, it has unlimited bandwidth, and you can share your pictures wherever you want.

I use DB as well. My Samsung phone has 'share to DB' icon when you click the image in the gallery, so it's pretty easy.

At some point, there was a problem with the Dropbox public link.. let me test:

Yeah, the you need to change Dropbox link ending from "dl=0" -> "dl=1", so it's the same as in 'download dropbox image'.

That was the 'new Ork flyer leak' img before bommas appeared, BTW
