Hi all,

I am thinking of getting Zhadsnark for my army because: (1) strikes-at-initiative power klaws are made of win; and (2) scouting/outflanking dangerous terrain-ignoring warbikes with 2+ jink saves as troops choices are made of win.

The only thing I am slightly curious about is how Zhadsnark himself really gels with such a unit. I get that he gives the unit the aforementioned awesome bonuses. But he is a choppy character in a shooty unit. Also not sure how tank shock fits into their game plan.

How do you guys use him, if at all?

A full Warbiker Mob with a Power Klaw Nob, Killsaw KFF Big Mek, Painboy, and Zhadsnark IS a choppy unit. The Tank Shock aspect kinda sucks.

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

Couldn't you potentially get an automatic First Blood with his Tank Shock? Zhadsnark can move up to 36in. If he tank shocks an enemy vehicle, in the assault phase he is B2B and so can swing his STR10 PK at it.

"If the Tank would move into contact with a friendly model, enemy vehicle, impassable terrain or a board edge, it immediately stops moving 1" away."

You can't tank shock into base contact with a vehicle.

I run Zhadsnark in a unit of 15 bikes (nob with pk), LS warboss on bike with PK and BP, and to that I add a Great Waaagh! detachment with a painboy on bike and a big mek with killsaw, mega force field and big bosspole. It krumps everything it touches.

Zhadsnark can ram however and there you end up in contact with the enemy.

"...Units other than vehicles are tanked shocked as normal, but if the ramming tank comes into contact with an enemy vehicle or building, resolve the collison as follows..."

How do you come into contact if you aren't in base contact and 1 inch away?

Also there is a precedent for this, since if a walker is rammed by a tank, the walker counts as being engaged with the vehicle in the assault phase and can strike it (its in the walker rules).

From the Forge World Dread Mob PDF:

Da Beast
When Turbo Boosting, Zhadsnark may move up to 24" rather than the usual 12". In addition, at the beginning of any Turbo Boost move he may declare that he will Tank Shock.
When making a Tank Shock move Zhadsnark is treated as though he was a vehicle with the Tank type and the Tank Shock is carried out normally, however he must move at least 12". If an enemy model declares a Death or Glory attack on Zhadsnark whilst he is Tank Shocking then it inflicts a single automatic hit with one weapon (either shooting or close combat). Resolve this hit normally. If Zhadsnark is wounded (whether or not he makes a save), he becomes locked in combat with the unit and is placed in base contact with the model that inflicted the wound, and the Tank Shock ends. If the hit fails to wound Zhadsnark then the model that attempted the Death or Glory attack is removed as a casualty (regardless of wounds or saves of any kind) and Zhadsnark continues to move.

Since Zhadsnark is treated as a vehicle with the Tank type when Tank Shocking, he is allowed to Ram vehicles. Ramming moves the models into base contact with each other before determining the Ram result, whereas Tank Shocking a unit he would have to stop 1" away before determining the Tank Shock result.

I think the key phrase there is "when tank shocking", which is a distinct action from ramming (albeit conceptually similar).

Have you read the rules for Ramming?

I use Zhadsnark and tank shock move is pretty awesome. I wouldn't every time. Small units and low leadership helps for the tank shock move. Normally when I use my Zhadsnark, I always put him in a biker boy squad with a painboy on the bike. Big Mek on a bike is an option. The main reason I take him is to take the DLS and buff the unit. Make Zhad WS7.

In regard to Zhadsnarks tank shock move, it is done when Zhadsnark turbo boost. This makes the tank shock out of sync with the game. Now since Zhad is most likely in a unit, Zhad needs to move into the front of the unit because he is the only one that is able to come into B2B with the enemy. If any other model from the unit comes within 1" of an enemy model the tank shock/turbo boost is halted. You still resolve the tank shock move as normal as per the BRB. If zhadsnark gets wounded from a death or glory by a model he placed in base contact with enemy model that wounded him and is counted as being in close combat.

Little fact: during the assault phase you actually fight the assault. Even tho a charge was not declared, all units that are locked in close combat are supposed to fight. This makes it possible for zhadsnark and his unit to get into close combat during the first turn, even if they scout. Scout specifically says you can't declare a charge, but since the action to get into close combat was a turbo boost/tank shock, it by passes the scout limitation. I like to see the look on my opponent's face when they realize they have to fight him.

BAHAHAHA! oh my..
I am thinking I will have to try this. I can see why people wouldn't be too happy, but imo its hilarious and could be great fun. The rules don't prevent it.

Notes would be;
Your bikers need to remain in coherency, as his turbo boost is longer, you'd need to be aware of that.
Bringing a DLS mek or WB would work, but more than likely zhandy is the closest model so will be taking the hits, obviously you can get some LoS's if you have some biker boyz with him.

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

Correct they would still have to stay in coherency so 12" move is the max you could go. But this gives the bike unit a 36" move during the first turn. Scout 12", move 12", and then turbo boost/tankshock 12". lol I did it at an event and shoved a full cultist blob off the table. First blood, and i'm in my opponent's deployment zone.

The two cases in which you could use Zhadsnark's Tank Shock ability to assault a unit turn 1 would be against: non flying Vehicles (including Walkers), and everything else not flying.

For this to work against a Vehicle, the target would have to be ~41" away from the Zhadsnark model. 12" Scout, 12" Movement, 12" Turboboost from his Warbikerz, 2" coherency, and about 3-4" for the Zhadsnark model (his Forge World base is much larger than a regular Warbike base). If this will put him in base (or hull) contact with a Vehicle, the Warbiker unit may assault the Vehicle during the Ork Assault phase. This is highly likely to succeed,

For this to work against everything else, the target has to pass a Leadership Test, choose to Death or Glory, and cause a wound against a T6 model. I can't remember the last time I saw a DoG on the tabletop. This is less likely to succeed.

I don't think Zhadsnark can ram vehicles because he does not have an armor facing. yes, he might be considered the tank type for the tank shock move, but without an armor facing value defined I don't believe he could ram a vehicle.

Armour Facing is only relevant after the Ram when calculating the Strength of the Hit the two Vehicles suffer. He can still Ram a Vehicle, it will just be at Strength 1 since he has no Armour Facing but he counts as a Tank. He also will take at a Strength 5 to 8 hit from any Vehicle he Rams.
