Nothing too major but FYI :

My understanding is that GW will be changing the way they do pre-orders.

They will now longer be available on the Friday evening but will be available to order online from 10;00 on Saturday mornings.

This will happen "soon" AFAIK.

Guessing maybe around the time they revamp Visions ..?

It will help people to get the newsletter and still order limited stuff. So they wont miss a thing they didnt know was coming for not being on their computer friday evening.

If they don't want folks who pay for the White Dwarf to miss out, shouldn't they start preorders on Monday instead? Unless you're waiting every Saturday at the front door of your local GW for it to open, you'll still miss out on the stuff that sells out in minutes flat.

I bought the previous two weeks hoping for Adeptus Mechanicus fluff I'd say it was okay for rules but I won't be buying it long term just for certain releases.

This has negatively affected me. My GW stays open till 7:30pm on Fridays to accommodate the pre-ordering and it also works as games night.

Now games night will finish at 6pm, making it pointless to attended :(

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

So going to your GW at 10.00am and getting the WD to preorder only to find out that somebody beat you by one minute while ordering from home is going to help how?

One day, one day GW will do something everybody can understand and agree with and that will give me an aneurysm

I expected them to go back to doing "proper" pre-orders, a month or two out as opposed to one week. This change feels kinda pointless.

Their stores aren't open on Mondays...so preorders would need to be Wednesday(the start of the work week for them) or Sunday(the end of the work week).

So, they have the game designers running the business now?

Roll 1D6 and consult the following chart:
1 - they will give no notice of pre-orders
2 - they will give -10 hours notice of pre-orders
3 - they will give 0 hours notice of pre-orders
4 - they will give 24 hours notice of pre-orders
5 - they will give 168 hours notice of pre-orders
6 - roll again on the table, but add a +15% price increase in addition. This result may be rolled more than once.

Another solution: if you have a local shop, just ask them to preorder it for you

You might even get it at a better price.

IF you know it's coming, and IF your FLGS can actually get any in.

I assume they think the customers will just run straight to the internet point to pre-order everything and then buy WD:W to see what they got.

Though to be fair, I think it's a good idea; it looks awful when stuff has sold out when the stores aren't even open

But... if you don't know it's coming, how can you preorder it online? With very few exceptions, FLGS get at least a few of every new release. It is very rare that if you call on the weekend, they're all pre-ordered out. This has never happened with my local GW store, to my knowledge. Not even with the super popular items like Deathstorm or Stormclaw.

If you have a good relationship with your store, they'll make sure you get the things you really want, too.

Keep in mind that FLGS make their orders from Monday-Wednesday, and generally they will known their allocation then, or before (they can call to find out).

Why would they want to accommodate the dirty rotten scoundrels who read the leaks online before they are published in the holy parchment of the official GW white dwarf.

If they really wanted to push sales of White Dwarf they'd add a unquie code to each White Dwarf that gave you a couple of days exclusive access to the pre sales. Obviously that'd require GW to have a reasonably modern printing process...

I'm just imagining the backlash now. Both for doing it in the first place and secondly when the system fails for some reason and people who genuinely bought a WD can't preorder

Pre-orders will go up at 10am in 4 different time-zones around the world, to coincide with local store opening times.

Local manager said it would be North America, Europe, Australia & Asia and New Zealand

I call BS. GW would never be so kind to Australia as to let us spend money on their products.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

It doesn't really make sense either. Do they go up 10am eastern time or 10am western time in any given region? There's 3 to 4 hours difference from the east to the west in most those regions listed.

It would also mean the entire world would be watching the New Zealand website because their preorders would go up long before the Europe and US ones.

This change is to aid in store sales through the order terminal. The pre orders will now be live when GW stores in the UK are open and allows customers in store to order through the terminal when orders go live. The current (old) way meant that of you want limited edition stuff you have to order from home since they're sold out by the time the stores open.

This makes no difference to me. My issue is never that it's whatever time on a Friday, my issue is that if I want something that might sell out (the End Times books, or datacards are recent examples), whatever time it is I have to be available.

Whichever sales person is trying to pretend that their strategy is working by under-supplying the market and going "look boss, we keep selling out!" needs to stop being a gakhead and go back to school.

Not if they force the webstore to only display the country it thinks you are in.

We'll have to hope GW remain technologically inept then

Even if they do, I imagine it'll just mean more wargamers learning how to get around IP locks, lol.

Or New Zealanders leaking the news.

Unless of course GW decides to release Aus/NZ stuff a week behind everyone else to avoid leaks from those pesky future-people.

LOL, that would also be annoying. But it still doesn't solve the overall problem, people in the USA will read about UK releases a bit before they come out and even within "regions" the time varies by several hours.

I wonder if when deciding to move to a 10am preorder time to align with stores opening they forgot that the world is round

Seeing as how the preorders always "go live" when the UK web team flips the switch, it won't really be a huge issue in regards to things like that.
