Hello there,

After some time of our painting, we had a nostalgic moment when we looked back and recollected the most memorable commissioned armies we had the pleasure to paint up to this date. Painting the whole army to reflect the idea that was begotten in someone’s mind is perhaps the best opportunity that may happen to the painter – and for that reason we really like to paint whole armies that look great and coherent on the battlefield afterwards.

We have chosen ten armies, painting which we liked most – now we’re wondering which one of them you like the most? Please vote in the poll and tell us why in the comment!
The armies (click on the photo to open the high resolution image):

1) Cherry Blossom Wood Elves Army:

It is one of the most unusual projects upon which we had pleasure to work with, themed around the Japanese cherry blossom - a pattern present on every squad in the army (on their cloaks, the cherry-flower inspired banners and custom bases), reflecting the time of early spring, when the snow is melting down and vegetation begin to sprout out. The little shrine and the cherry trees forests were also a part of the commission. The overall scheme is really nice and surprisingly fitting the models.

The photo is quite big, feel free to click on it and see the full army in detail!

2) Salamanders army:

It was (well, still is, as one part of an army is still being painted) a very big project - a massive, Horus Heresy army, featuring not only the mass of troops and vehicles, but also a Primarch of the XVIII Legion. We've done a special diorama for him - you can see him in the center, taming the giant Fire Salamander diving in the lava river of Nocturne. We also like the bright green scheme of this army and the flaming pattern on vehicles.

3) Ceramic Necron Army

We are all used to see the metallic Necron armies with green glow around them, so painting the ceramic scheme was really fun and refreshing. Cold blue glow is a nice touch-up, very fitting the primary color.

4) Infinity Yu Jing Army

Painted to resemble chrome-like, high-tech surfaces (inspired by Tron as well), this army was really a great opportunity to piant (and the models were one of the nicest sculpts we had the pleasure to deal with).

5) Dark Elves Army

With toned down and muted purples (and blue tones on the warbeasts) this army is a really nice sight on the table when present as a whole. Also, the swamp, watery bases make nice addition - to the warbeasts particularly, where the bases are big enough for the water to be present in a bigger amount!

6) Cerastus Imperial Knights Household

Perhaps not a classic army, since there are only several models there, but the overall commissioned force really was carved in our memories – the models are such nice and the chosen paintjobs for every one of them made each one unique.

7) Hexagonal Pattern Tau

We’ve enjoyed painting it in the high-tech, chrome-like scheme complimented by hexagonal patterns that nicely highlight the difference of technological approach when compared to the human technology in Warhammer 4000 – we find these patterns really fitting the technologically advanced, alien race.

8) Shadow Harlequin Army

One of our newest work, it was also a first time we used airbrush stencils - you can see them on the Voidweavers. The customer wanted the shadowy color scheme, so the Harlequins are not the classical, colorful troupe but rather dark, shadowy webway-stalkers.

9) Da Orkz

Technically not exactly an army, but a bunch of biggest creations of an Ork Mek, the yellowish armor turned out so nice, that we are often quoted for the Orks in this painting scheme.

10) Space Wolves Army

We've painted many Space Wolves forces in our history in every possible painting quality, but we really like the white fur of Thunderwolves in this one.

It's all great work, but those Wood Elves really stand out as unique. It's great to see the deviation from the normal greens and browns on those guys.

The Infinity army is a close second for me.

I think the Crons take my vote, with the Yu Jing and Salamanders not far behind!

Wood Elves. No question about it.

Tau, 100% I generally don't like the airbrushed look but on those Tau it is amazing!

Wood elves followed by the Harlequin and Dark Elf armies are the top three for me, it's a tough call to have to omit any others as they are all amazing.

I'm very fond of the Knights too, people seem to get an awful lot of mileage out of those kits!! (Both GW and FW variants!)

Don't play fantasy (but love to read the genre) so it kind of hurts to have to vote this way. There is some superb painting on display here but none of the others even approach the Wood Elves. Kudos, dude.

Yes, there are female marines and my Sunhawks will explain it to you.

God Awaken Realms always uses so much airbrush and little to know hand brush work. It looks great from afar but I really want to see how it looks close up. I seen some solo pictures on ebay and was not impressed at all... Selling ancient treeman for like $150 (rough estimate) for a hour or 2 worth of work.

Salamanders, Necrons, and Wood Elves, really hard to choose between those. All of them are so well done.

Ive seen it around ebay too. It does not seem like he charges that much. And probably much more than 2 hours worth of work especially with assembly and everything else.
I will agree that up close it is mediocre at best.
People who want lots of stuff painted, that looks good from a distance at a decent price will be happy with it.

Hard to choose, they're all awesome! Ultimately I picked the Tau (of course maybe that's because I like Tau anyway!).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

It's so hard to choose! In the end I went for the Wood Elves as it's the most unique colour scheme I've seen, but the Harlequins are spectacular, and the Necrons look amazing!

wonderful work, very hard to choose a favourite.

i went for a less popular choice, the salamanders.

i picked this as my favourite because the salamanders are a space marine chapter that i'm NOT interested in, yet the work caught my eye and made me want an army that looked like that.

i think the wood elves is technically the best, but the colours are so subtle that it's hard to look at and kind of faded into obscurity for me.

every single picture shows models that are so far in advance of anything i can do i feel bad explaining why i chose one over the other in case it reads like i can do better!

thanks for sharing
