While sifting through some old boxes, I found a can of GW russ grey primer. I've just kinda left it sitting on my desk for quite some time, but now that my can of Army Painter is empty and I'm not sure when I'm able to get a new one, I was wondering just how good the primer is. And would the fact that its blue significantly impact the model, or would using it for some nurgle stuff be fine?

Dear old friends, remember Navarro

I have not used the grey primer but have used chaos black and skull white extensively. Chaos black is excellent. Skull white I dislike
Immensely - always seems to dry before hitting the mini. Also used their red primer many, many years ago and that was worse than the skull white! Looked like I had coated a land speeder in red sandpaper!

I would not use blue for nurgle. Army Painter actually sells a pretty sweet primer for nurgle stuff. Its called Pestilence Flesh. If the primer was gray, id probably go for it, but not blue.

It's not terrible. I agree with above poster that the black is better than white. I prefer P3 primer by far to all others. So much so that I buy it in bulk on Amazon.

I think I will give this a try. I tried Army Painter before and it just spray way to much all at once.

One thing to remember is that is the p3 primer is thinner than the others. You'll see immeadiately but I promise it gets the best and smoothest coverage and brings out the details beautifully. It requires more than one pass. Spray let dry. And repeat until you're sstisfied. I sometimes even use it as a basecoat for black armor if I'm Batch painting because it looks so good lol

There is nothing wrong with GW primer. That said, there's also nothing wrong with P3 primer, which is cheaper, and 99% of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Both go on much thinner than army painter, which is almost like a spray paint you'd use for a non-modeling purpose.

It works..

The only issue is going to be price honestly.

honestly, i would use the Russ Grey primer up...
i normally lay down a coat of black paint over any primer, to give me a nice solid base to start painting over...
it doesn't matter what color your primer is if you are laying down opaque layers of paint over your primer...

the problem will come from using a different painting technique, like glazing, to paint your Nurgle guys...
if you are just going to lay down a solid coat of green as a base, grey will work just fine as a primer...

like bebop, i love P3 primer...
it goes on so smooth, and has way better tooth to it than GW spraycans...
that was always my gripe with GW Chaos Black and Skull White spray...
they rub off too easily...

P3 white primer goes on beautifully, for anyone who is after a good white spraycan...

cheers

This is my exact experience also. I had huge issues with the white
