We've got a trailer coming at 1:30PM, EST.
The Associated Press however has broke the embargo and posted their full article.
Highlight of the article is this bit:
"Battlefront" will also include a free downloadable level available two weeks before "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters Dec. 18. It's set on Jakku, the battle-scarred desert planet glimpsed in "Force Awakens" teasers. The expansion, dubbed "Battle of Jakku," will explore the moment following "Return of the Jedi" when the New Republic confronted Imperial holdouts on the previously unseen Outer Rim enclave.
Aye.. me and the boys are waiting for this with baited breath.. really hoping they keep console home based multiplayer in.. but I know in likely hood this will not be the case.
Going to get it anyway, and worst case we can still play 1 & 2 at home.

I wouldn't pre-order, this is EA after all. Unless ofc your wallet gives no shitz.
BF was great, but already we know 3rd is now first person. With no way of changing afaik.
I await the reviews, there really isn't any xbox shooter games that are set to be good imo this year, or last.
Still Master Chief Collection be almost fixed, kinda.
Have to say, I am hoping that mechanically, they do everything they can to keep close to the original games. BF3 with a next-next-gen graphics overhaul would be let pretty much perfect. (Well, I wouldn't mind a melee attack thrown in somewhere )
Of course, I expect we'll end up with perks/loadouts that every other shooter has today, but I can live with that. What I really, really hope stays is offline, non-campaign gameplay (the old Instant Action mode). Over the years, I'd wager I've spent as long playing IA on BF1&2 as I have most other games I own put together, and it's a game mode far too few games have these days. As someone who only buys an Xbox Live subscription when I'm in to online games (so pretty rarely, to be honest), but I'd much rather play straight-up battles than the same dozen campaign missions over and over.
I do hope there's a 3rd person mode, but again, I can deal with just FPS mode.
I really liked battlefront last time I played, but boy that was a long time ago. I wonder how things have changed? My worry is that they will cut out anything related to the clone wars.
Damn, that's a shame. Space battles, (more specifically ground-to-space battles) was one thing I really wanted to see here. Neither that nor the lack of Clone Wars era stuff is deal-breaking, though.
On the plus side, offline single missions and co-op splitscreen confirmed, which is awesome!

It's in the title. No single player, prequal, or space battles
No single player campaign. There is still offline single player, it's just one off missions, rather than a narrative. Which is fine, that's all I played on the old ones anyway!

They will also be quite different too apparently what are we expecting form it? In the old battlefront games your single player was jut the MP with bots and that rather neat risk setup.
Having no prequel really sucks for me. I've always enjoyed playing droids more than rebels especially with more unique units like droidekas. Prequel era tanks and vehicles were also pretty damn cool.
As for space battles, I feel its a step backward to lose it even if they're expanding ground battles to include dogfights and air support since then I feel we lose the "star" part of Star Wars especially given that several critical battles took place in space like the Death Star. It's sad to hear we won't have invading enemy dropships trying to get inside your hangar.
Engine looks great though and I am really curious over how they'll implement heroes into the game. Hope they keep the assault (hero vs. villain) mode, no more gooseneck Princess Leia for me!
The droid army was awesome. I mean the actual movies were... , but the dorid army was so much fun to play has so many cool elements and it's only been expanded since the last battlefront game.
Fans have got to understand that Disney is trying to launch this hugely expensive IP and so will not be featuring anything from the prequels because that is too contentious.
Trailer looks awesome of course, super cool shield generator, jetpacks and a new soundtrack I think?
And where are we getting the confirmation that there is no 3rd person or campaign? I would be very sad to see those go...
I don't know where people are getting the "no 3rd person from", because on the website for the game:
FOR JEDI AND PADAWANS ALIKE
Seamlessly swap between 1st person and 3rd person perspectives.
Partner up with a friend in online multiplayer, share unlocks and have each other's backs on the battlefront.
Fight for the Empire or Republic offline, solo or with a friend, in carefully crafted missions
Also if there is no Clone Wars DLC at some point I will swallow a lightsaber. That's just way too big a money maker to ignore.
It also is, as Manchu mentioned, one of the more contentious parts of the Star Wars property.
In regards to what we'll see for DLC? I think we'll be seeing planets, weapons, player models(I'm interested to see whether the various aliens are customization options), ships/vehicles and new game modes rather than something as big as "Clone Wars".
Why does "no iron sights" equate to "arcade gameplay"?
Because it suggests that there will be no need for precision aiming.
Have you ever played Battlefield?
I mean this as a serious question.
Also not sure where you got this whole "no iron sights" thing from in the first place. The likelihood of a DICE game not having the ability to aim down sights is very small. So while they may not have the style of iron sights you seem to want, DICE has a history of ensuring that aiming is actually kind of important.
I played one of the earlier ones(1942?), not very extensively though. My initial intetest in the game was based purely on the visuals but the more I learn about the game the less interested I become.
I have also played the near future one, again not very extensively.
The lack of iron sights was mentioned in the RPS article. There are optical sights but they generally serve a different purpose in games.

Just so you're aware, the "optical sights" that DICE uses tend to have different steps to them.
From red dot sights(effectively iron sights) to 40x ballistic scopes.
So, again, I ask what makes the lack of iron sights(something which they have seen get abused time and time again in BF3+4 for the sniper rifles) suddenly put a game into the "arcade" category?

What exactly do you consider "precise aiming"? Cause unless you are playing on consoles there won't be any auto-aim on pc multiplayer game. If you are referring to consoles then the idea of precise aiming deserves a lot of laughter.
Seriously though, Arcade style gameplay and precise aiming have nothing to do with each other. Or would you say a game like Unreal tournament or Quake Arena don't require precise aiming?
I really cant be arsed with getting bogged down with this but what I mean by the importance of precise aiming is that game a slow rates of fire and high damage requires carefully aimed shots. A game with high rates of fire and low damage doesn't require the player to do anything more than cursor aim.
From these two assumptions the general mechanics of a game and its values can be inferred.
I much prefer games which require careful aim and I am not getting a fuzzy feeling about this game.
If the aiming is like BF1&2, then that's fine by me. A target in the middle of the screen that shows where my shots are going, a click of the right thumbstick zooms in a little (over-the-shoulder in 3rd person, gunsights in 1st, scope on weapons that have them), and with most weapons, range and how long you fire for affect how accurate each shot is.
Personally, I am not a fan of CoD/Battlefield style aiming (holding down LT to aim, RT to fire, far more recoil/sensitivity), I'd much rather just keep it simple and have the bullets go where I point the targeter.
