Subject: What's going on with Eldar?

Forgive me for being ignorant, but I recently took a break from 40k in order to focus on my finals, and I've just come back to the scene to find almost everyone in uproar at a new Eldar codex? I've been to GW website and seen the Eldar: Craftworlds. Is this a new codex? That seems very quick for an update, the last one was only 2013, or is this just a supplement? And finally, what is it that's so broken about this codex? I occasionally play Eldar, and many of my regular opponents do, so if anyone can fill me in I'd appreciate it. Thanks

This is a new codex. You can take scatter lasers on Jetbikes which gives them 4 S6 shots each for 27pts. So now we're in the required panic and complain stage of events.

It's a replacement as part of the initiative to bring all codices up to 7th edition standards.
As for why people are complaining. It was a top tier Codex and nearly everything got better or cheaper or both. It has access to mass amounts of Srength D weapons at range (previously a fairly rare thing in 40k) and it has a troops choice that is one of the most mobile units in the entire game and each model in this troops unit can take a relentless S6 Heavy 4, 36" range weapon.

It's a new codex.
You know everything in the Eldar codex that wasn't called a wave serpent?
That got a buff. All of it.
Particularly Wraithknights (every weapon the wraithknight uses is now strength D, and it is now a Gargantuan creature giving it immunity to poison and Feel No Pain for free)
And the basic Guardian Jetbike (all of the models in a squad can take Scatter Lasers)
A scatter laser Jetbike is pound for pound the best troop choice in the game. A Wraithknight is as good as 2 Imperial Knights and costs less than one. And everything else in the codex (every aspect, every vehicle, every wraith construct, every HQ, all the psy powers, EVERYTHING) got sizable buffs.

Christ. What were GW thinking? Im not sure if this makes me want to switch to playing fantasy, or go out and buy more Eldar... In the interest of not having my wraithknight pelted at a wall I probably shouldn't do the 2nd option.
Are there any positive things in the dex? Or is it really all bad news

WS got nerfed. Everything else got buffed. Typical GW trolling its own players.

There's positive things in the book if you really like winning..?
The Aspect Warriors all seem really cool and actually useful now. I'm not sure if they're overpowered or not, they do seem strong. You can take Wave Serpents without being cheesy now, that's an upside? Seriously everything looks pretty strong, there doesn't really seem to be any duds, which would be great normally if the power level of the dex wasn't higher than like every single one before it.
Although like Paradigm said you can still build a non broken list.

As with any codex, just because the cheese is there it doesn't mean you need to run it. Leave aside the handful of broken things (Bikes with a Heavy Weapon on every model (1 in 3 is fine), Wraithknights and Wraithguard with a mobility buff) and you should be fine.
Most Infantry in the book are fine, and the Wave Serpent is much more reasonable now, so footsloggers or mech are both doable without going overboard. If you conform to the Warhost formations I believe all Infantry get a 6" run move, so combined with Battle Focus you can certainly get results with Infantry and still have a fast, fluffy army.
Really, just don't go spamming the handful of insane choices and no one is going to complain.

Well the bright side is the buffs made the aspects both awesome, fun, and middle of the road. I'm tempted to use the special formation to bring just aspects and maybe WS mounted dire avengers.
So basically aspects Wraithlords and vehicles= good to balanced. Guardian based units, batteries of vaul (Str D barrage blasts anyone?) wraith guard, wraithknights and wind riders = insane best units in the game.

Once again, you're conflating your own cutthroat hyper-competitive meta with everyone else's, and assuming the same attitude will apply. When the OP has explcity asked 'is there any good news' after finding out about the new rules, it's a pretty safe bet he isn't looking to exploit them.
You have my condolences for playing in a meta where the win is everything, but you can't assume that every gamer has those views (when in fact, I'd guess the majority really don't)

I've been to conventions. Gamers aren't that different around the nation. Most are petty and out to win. So I think that most play groups will see more of these things than they'd like.

I agree that the good news is the Aspect warriors might actually be worth taking. Not sure if they're OP or not, but definitely not as worthless as before.

The sun canon isn't SD and you can't take both ranged and CC D at the same time. I'm not saying its not under costed (it is very much) but its not that bad as a unit itself - lots of hammers and storm sheilds will kill it as will grav guns. Of itself it would be fine if it cost like 350-400 points or so and was 0-1.

It only takes one out of ten to do it, this isn't just some rule wrangling or win at all cost, this is just basic troop choices.
Im not traveling 3 hours to put my army back into their boxes faster than it took to take them out.
If that means outexclude playing against Eldars so be it...
